I remember when it came out I was pretty interested in the plot, and the advertising I saw for it was pretty neat too. But it's mediocre reviews it got back then and the mediocre rating it has now always put me off. This movie was my "movie you keep eying at the video store but never rent" deal. so... is it any good at all?

This is an unabashed love story...in a way. Just don't expect hugging/kissing! A fabulous, fabulous story. Rob Marshall verrrrry underrated for this one. I gave it a 10! That says it all.

I personally loved it. It's not completely accurate historically, which bothers some people and puts them off, but it didn't matter too much to me. The historical and cultural inaccuracy didn't detract from the story for me at all. I strongly suggest you give it a chance :)
