Does anyone like Serena?

I recently finished watching the entire series for the first time, and I liked Serena in Season 1 and partially 2. After that, I didn't like her. I think she was always too selfish and self absorbed and always blamed everyone else except herself.

I ended up liking Blair a lot more.

No shes a terrible person. I am team Blair all the way. Always was always will be. Serena somehow gets worse the more I watch the series Usually I can find redeeming qualities or ease up on them but not her. I used to get very irritated with Jenny and Vanessa as well and now I almost never do. Even Juliet gets more pity from me. Never Serena. Ugh. Hate her.

Nope I can't hate Serena I'm too much like her . Free spirited and I love life.. and ...

Serena is actually my favorite female character the second is her mother Lily
Serena is dope she can lead without the iron fist ... she is loved and hated for just being herself and she can careless either way . Very unapologetic because again she is living and loving life..... Many of the other females on the show are followers who try to out B*t*h each other that is so so tiring...........

I just finished the series late last night and Serena started out as a cute innocent girl. I felt for her and blinked that she was at least trying to change after sleeping with Nate. Season one, two and six she was cool but in the middle seasons she was a bitch. And I mean bitch, everything from her lying, stringing Dan & Nate along to her making a sex tape with Dan. All the while she's acting like she's an innocent lamb- she was horrible. She became one of the bitchiest in my book but towards the end when she tried to basically be a good girl again and get a fresh start like in season one, I liked her a little... She still dumb as hell

I tend to consider that those who don't like Serena are simply jealous of that sort of person.

Few seem to get on Nate but Nate in ways was even worse as he had no problems with trying to exploit people for his own gain.

People complain that Dan used Serena and her friends for financial gain, but he also helped their fame and power. Nate largely only helped Dan out with the Dartmouth rep because Nate didn't want to go to Dartmouth. Nate didn't feel much guilty about having sex with Serena. Nate tried to take Serena from Dan. Nate exploited Jenny's desire to be an UES. Nate puts his current romantic interest over all other concerns. He tries to get with Jenny even though he knows Dan wouldn't approve. Nate dates Raina Thrope and acts as if Chuck should simply accept that.

Nate tried to use both Serena and Dan to get traffic to the NY Spectator. Nate had the gall to act betrayed that Dan would opt for more money and power rather than have Nate used Dan's book to drive traffic to Nate's company (and it's never implied that Nate would have paid Dan more money).

Yes, Serena could be petty and very selfish. But so could Nate.

The latent causes of faction are thus sown in the nature of man [...] views

Lol I get what you're saying but I never said Nate was innocent

I agree with many people here, who defend her. Well,at the end of S5 she was pathetic. But I still couldn't really hate her,it seemed to me that she's really down. She was sucked in the gg role, felt alone, nobody noticed except Dorota.
The tape thing - pretty disgusting, all right. But she changed her mind about using it, and actually was right that Blair couldn't care less about Dan, while she loved him. And there were many moments, when she really tried to be the bigger person, let them be,even helped Blair to go to Italy with Dan.And when her grandmother died, watching her friend get together with her love...I think she just reached a breaking point.
I also think in the end she redeemed himself, become the nice person who she was in the beginning. S1 Serena was really cool. What I liked in her, that she couldn't care less if someone was a waiter or a chauffeur, from UES or Brooklyn, she cared about people, not their mooney and status like Blair, who thought herself better just because she was rich. That's something I really hate, like that idiots on Sweet Sixteen.
Just two more accusations, which I always read but don't find right: Blair as the hard working, while Serena just gets everything - well, no. Blair worked as an intern about a few months. Then played princess, than inherited mommy's business (who just gets everything on a plate?). Serena had many jobs, and she showed talent, even Rufus and Dan said she wrote well, her writing was poular. And in the first seasons we watch her study much more than Blair, who manipulates her teacher for a better grade.
The last: the accusation about her being with "too many boys". First: for such a young and attractive girl, it doesn't seem too many. Second: even if it's "too many" - who cares? Chuck and Nate with their black notebook, using 3 or 4 whores at a time regularly, and nobody bats an eye. Some double standard, anyone?
Sorry for the rant :)

Serena might have been right about Blair not loving Dan but it was up to her to speak up about it instead of acting immature and try to manipulate the situation where Dan and Serena ended up having sex and taping it. It was not right of her at all and she would have had sympathy on her side if she did not do that. She is wrong because it was still none of her business but if she felt the need to say it, she should have instead of stooping so low.

I agree, I liked her in Season 1. She was sweet and mature. In fact, everyone loved her so far in the series watching Gossip Girl, even if they thought Blair was more charismatic and Leighton gave a brilliant performance. It was not until Season 2 that people jumped on the Blair train and could have a rats a** about Serena. The reason is because she started acting like such an entitled brat. I do not dislike Serena because of anything that has to do with her friendship because at the end of the day, Blair can be a terrible person but like everyone else has said, at least she admits to it.

I do not see how you think that Serena has worked harder than Blair. For one thing, when they were at school, Blair was a brilliant student. When she was practicing for the SAT's, she was getting an almost perfect score. You forget that she was only being manipulative with her grade in senior year when the head mistress was making the girls think it was okay to slack off in that year so they could have it easier to get into the college of their choice. Serena was an average student(in the flashback to her boarding school days, she had Damien do all her homework because she sucked at math). Then, she got kicked out. Lily had to beg for her daughter to get back into Constance. Let's remember that she also got into Yale with all of that in her transcript just because she was hanging out with socialite Poppy Lifton, even though Blair had way higher credentials. She had to manipulate her way in while Serena was just given her acceptance on a "silver platter".

Your point about the jobs: Serena had only two. One was a publicist, which was also handed to her because she was Serena Van Der Woodsen and knew all the back exits to a restaurant, giving it to actress Olivia to escape paparazzi. She then quit that job. Two seasons later, she gets a job again luckily because she already had read that book that the film that was being created was based on. Blair got the internship at the fashion magazine after aggressively applying. Again, how was that easier than what Serena had been through getting her job?

Chuck also got handed his father's business but that is what happens when you come from a family with a successful business. Considering how much harder Blair had worked her entire life, she definitely deserved it much more than Serena, who actually has never really worked hard until something was actually handed to her.

Oh and about the double standard thing, can we not pull the sexist card when it is the farthest from the truth? When has Nate not been called a man wh*** throughout the entire show? He is more known for that than Serena is and it is because they both have the tendency to fall for another person so easily and then so quickly get over them. It has nothing to do with how many people they have boned. It has more to do with how many relationships they are in. They are serial daters that take every relationship for too seriously and get into a new person literally so easily.

I really liked her in the first season but then my opinion of the character kept changing as I watched the show. One thing is for sure though, I enjoyed watching Serena and all her shenanigans.

I hated Serena. She was ok for maybe the first half of season 1 but then she just became unbearable. Any guy who showed the slightest interest in her was automatically her true love. Then she strings along Dan and Nate while hooking up with another guy. Not to mention all the times she fucked Blaire's boyfriends. And whenever someone calls her out for her disgusting behavior she never owns up to it and tries to turn it around like they are wrong. She doesn't take any responsibility for her actions. She is a gross, toxic person.
