What she really whispered **Spoilers**

k i know if you cc the scene, it says motherfkcuer but that doesn't make any sense. Honestly, i think it makes way more sense that she says your the father...say it out loud and its easy that it can be misunderstood, or maybe it was put in the closed caption intentionally, but just think, all that and she ends it by whispering motherfkcuer in his ear? Didn't seem in her character at all, just doesnt fit. I also think he said, she called me a dirty word just as a coverup. He wasn't going to turn around and say, "She told me that my recently deceased ex-girlfriend was carrying my baby"

I specifically heard her say *beep* It's a reference to Dashiell Hammett's story, "The Girl with the Silver Eyes", which ends the same way.

I think it's really interesting that a common reason given for Laura not swearing is that it would not fit her character. Why wouldn't it? She was a snake disguised as a cute little rich girl, plain and simple. She used and abused people, even got them killed, just to work her game. To take it even farther, what do we know about her character besides that it was rotten? She was lying throughout the entire film.

Also, saying "Mother father" seems really off to me. I know they used a bunch of slang but that just doesn't play. The swearing fits in way too many ways to not work (especially when you take the "The Girl With the Silver Eyes" parallels, as mentioned by the previous poster, into account)

It is pronounced "EGREGIOUS"

Thank you. I totally agree! I was reading through this thread *hoping* someone would used some common sense. Brenden reveals to *us* (the audience) something we likely missed the whole way through: that Laura was not at all what she seemed.

Also, I watched the movie once, then replayed the last words, and without any debate (and using Brenden's hint that "she called me a bad name") I did hear her say mother******.

Lastly, as to why she would say it: because she was plotting and scheming and manipulating *everyone* throughout the movie. So her reasoning is two fold: first, as Brenden says, "It is done." which means she's screwed; and secondly, she said earlier, "You think no one notices you but I did" and either stated or inferred that she was jealous of his unconditional love for Emily. It's only when she realizes she'll never have it that the claws come out.

You guys are thinking too hard into this. She did say said *beep* It's a double entendre, think about it.

"And he died on his birthday. LOL"

reply

Pretty friggin' funny. I just watched the movie -- and enjoyed it. But as I saw her lean into him I said to myself, those maniacs on IMDB are gonna go nuts asking each other what she said and coming up with crazy theories. Even when he sort of explained what she said I knew that wouldn't stop you all for one second.

You did NOT disappoint!

She definitely said "mother *beep* if you didn't get that you are retarded. Only thing that's unclear is, was Brendan the father, or was it Jerr? Both answers make sense and would make Brendan feel guilty for her death.

I don't understand why this fuels so much controversy.
She told him she had his child, what she said is plain and simple. She said she was 3 months pregnant and something along the lines of guess who was *beep* her then. It was his child. Then she told him she did not love the guy who fathered the child and wanted to get rid of it.
She was just taking revenge for him ratting her out. Simple as that. Her revenge was brutal. In essence she told him he did all this for a woman who didn't love him and wanted to get rid of his baby.

She said *beep* That's sort of a joke in crime books, like Maltese Falcon. They are very violent, the people are taking drugs, there is sex but there is never any bad language. In fact when there is bad language the detective usually mentions it, but it is never really said, something to the effect of "the guy used a four letter word and then told me to shove off".
