Was the writing done intentionally so you'd have to watch it a couple times (and I'm smart, I've taken up to physics and calculus II in college) to figure out what's going on? I am referring to more of a suspenseful type of writing, in this sense, not reference intellectual attributes. It just appears to appeal to the audience, indirectly, in a fun way, to view it a few times to "get the answer to the riddle."

For a small film, it’s enjoyable with one viewing but you clearly know you missed a lot of it. No real science or math background is needed. When they mumble on about scientific detail in conversation, just accept their conclusion. The time travel events are the most important.
Scenes that don’t make sense like the “noises in the attic” or any time things are mentioned that seem out the ordinary or arbitrary are clearly done for a reason.
There are a lot of YouTube videos that explain all of it. It is a much more complicated series of events that one viewing will allow you see. The number of times they travel is much more than it seems on the surface. Not worth overthinking it on the first viewing.
And it’s a pretty short movie.

If you like this, i highly recommend Time-lapse from 2014.
Similarly low budget and complex, but yet inventive and compelling.
Plot goes...Three friends discover a mysterious machine that takes pictures twenty-four hours into the future, and conspire to use it for personal gain, until disturbing and dangerous images begin to develop.

I like all time travel movies including Time Lapse. I even braved the theaters to see Tenet.
