Pretty much guaranteed he wouldn't have amounted to much in the NFL without a good work ethic. Even the best college running backs have pathetic NFL careers.

I disagree with the assessment of LV, Boobie's uncle. In the book he wasn't portrayed like he was in the film. He was a hard working man who traveled long distances to watch Boobie, let alone the fact he took Boobie in to live with him when he wasn't even his son.

Bissinger in the book even remarks on what a fine and decent man he was.

Assuming he stays healthy, he makes it to the league if he really devotes hhimself to learning the game. If not serious about the Sunday through Friday of D1 ball, he goes undrained and back to Odessa where he finally gets his head right, or quits playing and starts coaching.
