Let's list the flaws and inconsistencies within the show

I'll start with a few off the top of my head

1. In the season 1 episode "The Alliance" we learn that Meredith is an accountant. After season 1, she obviously isn't an accountant.

2. Again in "The Alliance" we learn that Meredith's birthday is the firth birthday coming up but it's not for about a month, or a few weeks or something. Then in season 4, when Jim is put in charge of the office for the day we learn that it's birthday month. There are 3 birthday's in one month ending with Meredith's. And speaking of Birthdays

3. Wow, "The Alliance" is just causing a lot of problems here. We kind of get the impression from that episode that they never really did birthday parties in the office. Michael just wanted to do something special to lift the spirits of his employees. Then in Season 4 we get a montage of Michael surprising employees on their birthday's and it's implied that this is what Michael has always done. I guess it's possible that he only began the birthday tradition after season 1, but I don't think that was the implication.

4. Pam and volleyball. In Season 4 we learn that she always faked PMS to get out of playing sports in gym including volleyball. Then in season 5 we learn that she played volleyball in high school and college and went to volleyball camp most summers.

What else do we have?

Well you don't have to participate... I find this stuff interesting and thought that others might too. Sorry for bothering you.

"Why couldn't the monkey arrange this from INSIDE the garbage can?"

reply

Let's not, I wouldn't want to waste my time.

True, we wouldn't want you to break your world-record streak for being a douchebag.

Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.

I'm pretty sure in the episode where Ryan returns (in Weight Loss, season 5) Micheal goes from having a goatee, to no goatee, back to goatee.

Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.

reply

i might be remembering wrong but in the episode where michael burns his foot, dwight drives him to work, then michael has wheelchair guy come in to give a speech. wheelchair guy complains that someone parked in the handicap spot and michael makes a guilty face like he's the one who did it.... not sure if dwight parked there but it seemed to be implied michael did even though he didnt drive to work

reply

Huh. Good catch, I can't believe I never noticed that.

No it's implied that Michael in his massive fit over his cooked foot would have told Dwight to take the handicap spot which Dwight being subservient to Michael would have done.

When they are walking out to take Dwight to the hospital you can even see his "dork-mobile" parked closest to the main doors.

The biggest inconsistency would be that the documentary's film makers are invisible and/or overly ubiquitous.

Office workers often looking at the cameras and then moments later, from the opposite angle, the camera and its operator are nowhere to be seen.

Frankly, it's nothing short of predominant.

reply

Regarding Pam and volleyball; I always just saw it as her wanting to get out of gym class volleyball and not her hating volleyball as a whole. There's a difference between playing a sport because you want to and playing because it's part of a class.

As for inconsistencies; I was always a little annoyed that characters like Jordan, Cathy, and Gabe (especially Gabe) were written off without a word.

Wow! That is a great point and I am SO glad I didn't read it until I finished binge watching the series! I will never be able to watch an episode of The Office from now on without thinking about this, lol!

They messed up on Michael's 15 year anniversary. The show has always been "real time" in that it's supposed to be the year on the show that it really is evidenced by the pop culture references (ex. Michael saying he saw Inception). Based on the pilot and seasons when Michael was talking about his 15th year at DM it was actually his 16th year.

Also when Michael left Stanley said he'd only worked for Michael but that can't be true because he had been there before Michael was manager and they even talked about it when the former manager Ed Truck died.

reply

when ed truck died i dont think michael mentioned him with ppl who worked with ed

honestly a lot of the career lengths seemed inconsistent im still not sure if pam or jim worked there first

Yea because Jim says he fell in love with Pam the first day of work when.she said remember today is the day you meet your desk mate Dwight. But later Jim.says he's been there ten years and her interview with alt Michael.Scott he says 12, and then she says nine like in the same.episode. I Believe, could be flipped around in numbers.
