Least favorite main character
Who is everyone's least favorite main character from The Office?
shareWho is everyone's least favorite main character from The Office?
shareHow can you all hate on Pam and not this useless character Ryan?
I don't find BJ Novak especially good as an actor and the character he plays, is just mean. I don't think I ever laughed at anything he ever said or did.
This is supposed to be a comedy-show after all and Ryan was far from comedy. At best, a sleasy guy, at worst, a controlling psychopath.
I had high hopes that he was written out of the series after he applied for the job as regional manager, but no, they had to get him back somehow.......that really put a damper on the show.
Ryan was a fairly minor character. The only story lines central to him were going to New York and dating Kelly on and off.
Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.
I just watched some episode in season 8, where he pretends to be the boss of Kelly and as with all the other side-stories regarding him, it's about using and pressuring people.
Kelly, as a character, is much richer and funnier without this scumbag, Ryan just puts a damper on everything and in every scene he has a line. (and he does have a few)
I didn't particularly like Ryan either, and the whole corporate business in S4 was just nonsense. You have to remember that BJ Novak was a prominent writer on the show, which may explain why he has more lines that necessary. I think the show would have been just as good, if not better, without the character though.
I'm not sure these would classify as "main" characters, but I absolutely could not stand Nelly, Gabe or Erin.
shareIf we are talking main characters I would say Ryan. Characters from later on in the series I would say both Gabe and Packer drove me nuts.

My least favorite was Nellie. She had no purpose to the show as we already had plenty of crazy bosses and once she stopped being a boss, she just sort of existed by being shoe horned into different subplots that never panned out. She wasn't as charming as the writers thought she was, nor did I find all her multiple sob stories an excuse for her behavior. The character just didn't work.
A second would be Rysn. I don't dislike the guy but he should have left the show after being fired. Like Nellie, the writers didn't know what to do with him once he came back.
I'm only on season 6, and I have to say Ryan and Angela, even though, there were moments where they made me laugh.
shareAndy. After the Hangover was a huge hit, they tried like crazy to capitalize on it and force him into more of a starring role. It was especially bad after Michael left. Andy and Nellie are probably the two biggest reasons I hated the last two seasons.
shareFor a character who's been there since day 1: Oscar. He's pretty sympathetic during Michael's unintentional abuse in the early seasons, but afterwards he becomes incredibly entitled, selfish, and unlikable. The way he needlessly attacks manager Jim for everything he says and rallies up everyone against him based on simply mishearing what Jim's saying, who's just trying to do his job and make people happy, makes me angry.
For a later character: Nellie. She's not funny, interesting, unique, or likable. Every time she comes on screen, I'd prefer to just stare at a blank wall until it cuts away from her.
