Monkey Dust Music

Anyone know the name of the piece of music played when Clive is coming home from his "outings" - you know, the one that's whistled?

reply

Lovely Head by Goldfrapp.

Causing offense on forums since '98

reply

What is the song playing after the homeless couple goes to sleep in episode 2?

reply

It took me a while to find out which "episode 2" you meant; and when I finally found it (season 1, episode 2), I realised, I have no idea what that song is!

Will anyone help me out in figuring out a list of all the music cues in all three seasons? I recognise the Eels, Black Box Recorder ("Hated Sunday"), Goldfrapp of course, and Boards Of Canada... anyone else want a go?

And of course, no surprise to see England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson in the crowd.

reply

Well, in answer to my own question, BBCThree's posted playlists of the songs for seasons two and three. Links to them here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/tv/monkeydust/about_the_show.shtml

The playlist for season one may lurk about somewhere on the site; I'll keep clicking and see.

Does anybody know nice downbeat track playing in episode 3 (season 2) during Magazines sketch? It is playing in time range 6-7th minutes

reply

That would be "oh home" by Paco Hernandez. It's on cafe del mar vol 6.

'Lovely Head' by Goldfrapp

The best tune is the one at the end of the final episode, where Ivan Dobsky is riding the ****-up space hopper made from the body parts of the prison guards. Can't think of the name or artist though... anyone know it?

reply

[deleted]

It's Sunrise by Pulp from their 2001 album We Love Life.

reply

[deleted]

it's sunrise by pulp, off the we love life album. anyone any idea what the music is when ivan's on the space hopper generally? its so cheesy and happy!

reply

The tune at the end of series one (Episode 6) where Ivan Dobski is escaping from Crowmarsh Prison riding a space hopper made of body parts from dead prison guards, is called:

Sunrise by Pulp.

You have to fast forward to about 02:30 into the song to hear the build up starting. I have to give great credit to the editors or whoever chose to use that song; it was just perfect for the scene.

PS: If you have a car, put this track on, skip to about 03:00, and floor the accelerator.

reply

Does anybody recognise the music played while various characters are in bed after the final mail-order bride sketch in season2 episode6.

it sounds like elbow, but i have a feeling its not....

reply

Theres this one whistling part on kill bill that was taken from the film twisted nerve...i'm sure i've heard it on monkey dust but don't know where. Anyone know which bit i'm talking about?

reply

The whistling from Kill Bill was taken from Bernard Hermann's score for "Optic Nerve." As for the whistling bit in Monkey Dust, I'm sure you're thinking of the whistling from Alison Goldfrapp's song "Lovely Head," which is Track 1 on her album Felt Mountain. It was used over and over on the UK version of Monkey Dust for that one fellow who would walk through the city late at night, coming home to his wife, wherein he would tell her a gross untruth as to why he was home so late.

Does anyone know anything about the music thats played when the old man has the gay dream in season 1? I think its in episodes 5 &6. Its very Beatles-esque psychedelic music with sitars etc. Its brilliant!

reply

The first subtitle option on the Series 1 DVD brings up captions to tell you what each tune is and who it's by - including who wrote the sketch etc.

And the psychedelic song is Utterly Simple by Traffic.

Mate appreciate the work. But on the Roy of the Roasters, in this video

from about 4:20 when the nocturne starts the music is different from what you've put down. Does anyone know what it is, the only lyrics you hear are "it's a wonderful life now it's over".

I was gonna ask about the music that plays during the suicide attempts of Timmy's dad, but I found it on the unofficial soundtrack :D

its been mentioned a few times on this thread without its location in the episodes.
