Is There a Possibility of a Mini-Series in the Near Future?

In the early 2000s, SciFi Channel produced a mini-series of the book Dune, and with several years having passed since the disappointing film adaptation, was successful enough in its endeavor to produce a series for the next two books (combined into one series).

This made me wonder about the potential for His Dark Materials to get a similar treatment. With the film property absolutely dead in the water, is it possible that perhaps a push for a television series, produced by a solid digital network like HBO or Starz, might re-examine the potential? Surely the international market is significant enough that even if they felt the viewership in the US would falter, there would still be profitable viewership that would warrant at least testing the market.

I just want to hear what others have to say. There might be impediments that I don't know about (such as Warner Brothers maybe owning all production rights or something).

I would be really excited if HBO or AMC did a three series show based on the books, maybe making it a more family friendly version of Game of Thrones. But it would be a really expensive show if it was made because of all the special effects and different locations that would be required. It could make an excellent animated series akin to Avatar: The Last Airbender or the anime show Attack on Titan as they both have been praised for their storytelling and visuals and of course animation isn't as limited to its scope like a live action series would.

As much as I love Game of Thrones, it does suffer a little because you don't get to see the battles and the changing military position most of the time and it is usually left to either showing smaller skirmishes, the aftermath of a battle or left to dialogue in conversations between characters.

Maybe on BBC or C4 and they could play it on BBC America. I don't think there's an audience in the US for it.

Yes there is.

There is a tv show, but it's really crappy compared to this movie.

That sucks.

They have an unattractive girl with straight dark hair, brown eyes, that looks about 16, playing Lyra. Need I say more?

Damn... a 6 years old discussion turn out to be real!
I'm watching the series now and it's prety good actually

It’s a few years later. The series is out. It was seen to its completion. Visually, not as beautiful as Golden Compass, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have healthy production values. Plus the story is very captivating.

I watched Golden Compass back when it came out, being a fan of the books, and was severely disappointed at how it turned out, no matter how lavish it looked. I saw a few episodes of the series but didn't like how they "contemporised" it and made it look more utilitarian, but as of now, I'm liking the TV series more and more and am going to rewatch Golden Compass tonight to see how badly Hollywood treated it.
