Anton Ego's flashblack.
I literally yelled "fantastic" at the TV (forunately I was watching it by myself at the time), during his flashback because it's so well done, making Anton Ego's change from foe to friend believable.

shareFantastic scene, and my favourite part, next to Egos monologue.
I started to tear up but I had company, if I had been alone, I would have cried like a baby.
I remember seeing a special sneak preview of this film months before it's initial release, this scene in particular brought the whole story full circle, seeing ego take that bite, and rewinding back to his child hood, touched me deeply, what makes this scene so damn special is the fact that it's not about the dish remy made, it's the fact he put alot of love into his craft, just like our mother put alot of love into their children or their food...
I have been on a quest to reclaim this movie, and just today i got it as my christmas gift from my mother and father, it gave me fuel to become the best damn animator/ artist i could be, have not gotten to the finale yet, but when i saw this scene so many years ago, i was awe struck and truly inspired to make something and put all my love, heart, sweat, and soul into whatever i do!
Going back to the scene at hand, seeing ego's cold heart warm up with that single bite proved that pixar created something more than a kid's movie, they created a masterpiece and put them on alot of watchlist's across large numbers of critics and moviegoers to see what they would come up with next.
The dish remy made was made with his love and passion, ego's monologue at the end was pure icing on the cake as well. But when i saw that scene my theater was full, and there were laughs but the laughs came to a sudden halt when the flash back kicked in... and I believe I heard some crying around me.
Again I put this film at the top five animated films, there is so much to love about this.
That moved me so much I literally teared up! I didn't expect it from this film which I thought would be good but just a bit of silly fun. Seeing him as a mean, cold villian then seeing the ratatouille trigger a childhood memory was actually so powerful, and seeing him as a child humanised him, after that I thought he was so sweet. I felt kind of sad and sorry for him. I think he was happy in the end though :)
shareI remember reading Marcel Proust's Remembrance of Things Past in the original French for a class in college. In the 20-plus years since I read it, for the life of me, I can't remember exactly WHAT he wrote, about eating the pastry and being reminded of a childhood experience many years before. But I will never forget HOW it made me feel. There are some memories in our lives that are immediately evoked by certain scents or tastes. I smell crayons and I instantly remember coloring pictures in grade school. Or I taste canteloupe and right away I'm reminded of my mother, who bought it all the time. The Pixar people nailed that evocative nature of taste of the ratatouille perfectly.
I'd put a stupid saying here but I won't.
It is my favorite part of the movie and maybe of any movie. It's amazing how a taste, a smell, or a song can instantly evoke a memory and take you back to a moment or time in your life. I was very touched by this scene and Ego's character development.

Its an amazing scene... the main villain of the movie is completely neutered by something that brought him back to when he was a hurt kid and his mom made him something amazing that made him feel better.
If something like that has ever happened to you.. it makes the scene so touching.
OHHH GOOOD FOR YOU!!
