Am I the only one who thinks this is a very good film?

I don't get the hatred for this film. I thought is was very well written, and was very entertained by the story.

This was a great, great film. I have no idea why it's so underrated. This and Celebrity and Hollywood Ending are a few of his best films from recent years, and all three are terribly underappreciated. It's very sad. I loved this movie, it was classic Woody Allen.

I loved this film. Very entertaining and well done. Definitely underrated.

I actually think a lot of Woody Allen's recent films are underrated; mainly because his target audience compares them to his best works and everyone else thinks Transformers 2 is a masterpiece.

Don't tell me what I can't do!

reply

No you are not alone, I thoroughly enjoyed the film...witty and entertaining to say the least!

The "tragedy" part I thought was brilliant. The comedy wasn't as good with Will's mediocre acting.

reply

It's currently my favorite Allen film. The comedy section is what really makes the movie, though.

This is one of those films I can happily sit with a glass of wine and enjoy as an easy going diversion. It's not a taxing story, but it has interesting characters. Woody's films always have an element of craft and wit to them, even ones that are considered his 'lighter' films, like Small Time Crooks or Scoop. I rate Melinda higher than Crooks or Scoop though, as it has the interweaving story lines which I always find quite pleasing on repeat viewings. There's just something relaxing about this one, I like it a lot.

I have just this minute ordered 'Alice' from Amazon, looking forward to checking it out.

Have you enjoyed Alice? Love that film. Hope all of Woody's older films get a Blu Ray release someday.....

Hi mguervarra91-1 - I first watched Alice and kept waiting to get the joke to be honest. I was so excited to see Farrow, Hurt and Baldwin in a Woody film but none of the supporting cast had much to do (especially Hurt, who won my heart with Kiss of the Spider Woman) so I decided to wait and watch it again. Second viewing I realised what Woody was going for and enjoyed it a lot more. It's a fairy tale for adults, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. I still think it pales in comparison to dramas like 'Hannah', thrillers like 'Crimes...', and comedies like 'Sleeper', but it's a sweet little film and deserves it's place in his canon.

Farrow was very good in it, and the ending was really uplifting. The fantasy element worked really well too, I loved the scene where Alice and Joe go shopping while they're invisible, the taxi joke made me laugh.

So far the only Allen film that I can't recommend is 'Don't Drink the Water', that was a total nightmare from start to finish. But hey, that's just, like, my opinion.

He left a note. He left a simple little note that said "I've gone out the window."

Hey there projectcyclops. Ms. Farrow's comedic performance should have won her the Golden Globe. Pay attention to her scene wit Keye Luke, just before being hypnotized. The cadence of her speech and character neuroses is absolute Woody Allen perfection! She was Woody in that scene.

I agree, it's very good.

That's the way it crumbles... cookie-wise.

I also loved this film, but I often wonder if I loved it solely because of Radha's phenomenal performance. She deserved an Oscar nomination in my opinion.

I fly above the haters!

reply

I enjoyed the heck out of it, and I also wondered if it was mainly because of Radha's performance. But it doesn't really matter, I don't think. For whatever the reason, I liked the movie. I'm so glad that I decided to give it a shot, despite some of the lukewarm reviews that I've read for it.
