Any tips for high school?
I'm in Junior High and in 4 months, I'll be in high school. We watched this movie in Health class this week and I'm even more afraid of High-School than I was before.
Any tips that could help me at all?

I graduated high school in 2009 and let me tell you, high school wasn't that big of a deal. It was a whole lot better than middle school/junior high.
But I follow this girl HayleygHoover on youtube and she made this video.
It sums up my advice.

It depends on the high school I guess, because aside from dating drama my high school was nothing like what you see in movies.
I think it depends on the people you surround yourself with. As a 9th grader the best thing I think you can do is join a club/sport. You'll naturally meet people and make friends.
Good luck! It's not so bad :)
Don't do anything you don't want to do - don't give in to peer pressure!
Stay sober no matter what - it will save your life and your sanity!
Friends come and go - and so do boyfriends/girlfriends, and it's not the end of the world!
Make sure you have someone, (an adult hopefully) that you can trust and talk to about anything.
Be very careful who you choose as friends. They will stab you in the back the first chance they get and betray you. Look out for yourself and remember it's only high school!
High school is only 4 very short years. Don't let anyone decide how YOUR life will be, you have the power to do anything you want.

Excellent advice.
shareI graduated from high school in 2003, and while sometimes I feel like I should let the bitterness go; it's good for me to remember it because it reminds me what needs to be fought for. Basically in most high schools you either give up your individuality willingly or it gets ripped away.
If you're popular now; you'll be fine. That being said, the likelihood that you'll achieve something beyond the mediocrity of your peers is rather limited.
I skipped the 7th grade, which annihilated any coolness I may have had, but it was good because I just stopped trying and decided to be myself. It's not cool to be passionate about anything in high school except perhaps winning the big game, but I was passionate about music and politics and getting out. I made it out, actually in the background in one of the scenes of the movie you could see 2 of the dorms where I went to college, Ohio State. Then I moved to England to get my masters at the London School of Economics, and, as good fortune would have it, I'm beginning my fully funded Ph.D in Sociology in the fall, with a focus on none other than Politics and Music. Thus, I say you should find something you're passionate about and fight, fight for it with all that you have. Also, remember what a transitory time high school is. I was always keenly aware of it.
Here's a good soundtrack that might help you survive:
Playground ~ XTC
Tongue Tied ~ Eve 6
Our Bovine Public ~ The Cribs
Friends Forever ~ The Old 97's
Sonny Feeling ~ Wilco
That's Alright ~ Admiral Twin
B.S. Johnson ~ The Pernice Brothers
The Walk ~ Hanson
The Believer ~ Rhett Miller
Theologians ~ Wilco
Across the Great Divide ~ Semisonic
Victim of Circumstance ~ Joan Jett and The Blackhearts
Oh, and if you're worried how it turns out, in an interview Rhett Miller (who is also the lead singer of The Old 97's) explained Friends Forever as, "But the message of that song is that it gets better. I’ve seen it again and again. The cheerleaders and the homecoming kings and queens —what happens to those people? A lot of them end up living these very disappointing lives. They peak at 18. And the nerds end up taking over the world."
I just wish someone had told me all of this when I was 13.

Is that really true that the 'populars' live disappointing lives? I don't expect their lives to be great, or even better than normal, but I actually thought that they would do as good as everybody else... So it it true that they're over with at 18?
Yep, the popular girls lives are toast by 18 because they go to desert parties where our bands are rockin the metal and all they want to do is ditch their preppy boyfriends and end up having sex with the actual cool kids and Bam pregnant. Prep boyfriend gets an office job and we get the girls.
I think I actually spent more of my School years partying than actually showing up at school.

The best thing you can do is be your own person. I mean it. Stand up for yourself. Speak up. Don't let anyone get to you. High school honestly isn't that bad. Once you get over being intimidated by everyone then you'll be fine. Promise. =] It really is easy. Just work on not caring what anyone thinks.
shareI started high school shortly after the Columbine incident and I seriously never wanted to go back. I was so scared that would happen in my school. But my advice is to just be yourself - don't try to change to be in the "popular" group. I was never a popular girl but I had my nice little group of friends and I loved high school.
share...um..were you going to the same Columbine High-school??? ..Cuzz, if not, you shouldn't make other ppl's loss and suffering about you and your own drama..not cool
...just saying
Oh high school, it was so long ago! I started 9th grade 8 years ago!!! So far though, the best 4 years of my life. The advise I have to give is this:
-Be yourself.
-Join as much as you can, but only what you want to.
-Be nice to everyone, including the staff of the school.
-Enjoy the only time in your life when you don't have to pay bills (or a lot of bills at least).
-Talk to your parents.
-Don't have sex, you'll just wind up being terrified you're pregnant all the time lol or you'll actually get pregnant...or an STD (my best friend was like this, I didn't have sex until college)
-All guys are not like Andy from this movie, but the geeky ones like David are definitely the best.
-Cliques are not as exaggerated in real school as they are in movies.
Everything else you need to know is in this song:

Oh, and keep your grades up! :)

I just graduated - honestly, don't even worry about high school. I tend to be shy and even I thought high school was easy. All these movies about bullying and stuff like that are just exaggerated.
High school can be cliquey, but you'll naturally find a couple friends to hang out with.
Just be a nice, polite person, and you won't have any trouble at all. The only kids I ever saw getting bullied or made fun of were the obnoxious kids who never knew when to shutup. You know those types of kids - I'm sure you're not like that.
Just be a genuine, friendly person and fly under the radar. You'll be fine - I promise. I go to a public high school with a lot of kids and I never got into a fight or got bullied or anything like this. And none of my friends did either.
"And then he started cheating...especially at magnetic travel scrabble."
Thanks to everybody who gave me tips so far, and I just got the book 'Speak' from the library like an hour ago, and I'm reading it now.
For future advice givers, thanks in advance, but a few things I should add about myself:
1) I do not like sports and I CAN not play them. I try, but I honestly can not. I also play no instrument.
2) I'm still pretty scared of high school.
3) I don't have many 'friends'. I have people who are 'acquaintances' but not really 'best buddies'.
And just again, thanks to all those with advice!
