Use of the 'N' Word

I wonder what people think when they are watching a movie and someone uses the "N" word. I know people talked that way back then but that term is so offensive to many people today. It was used just once in the movie but it seemed pretty unnecessary.
Otherwise I thought it was a good movie...

I was surprised at it's inclusion. But I think it was realistic to include the 'N' word in this case. That would have been the expression that sort of character would have used at the time.

Realistic to the times. Ever see "Ragtime"? Same there.

You people are flaming insane! This film hardly went into Tarantino territory; it was ONE time and considering the gist of the setting, time, location... not to forget the fact that they were CONFEDERATES. If they were Yankees maybe it'd be slightly less plausible to hear them say the N word, but was still considered common "slang" more than perjorative back then, no matter WHAT side you were fighting for. This forum is becoming too damn PC... and this coming from a female Jew.

I didn't think about it at all.

It's a film set in the 1860s, before SJWs were around to throw up their hands and get offended at every little thing. Is the word derogatory? Yes. Should you get all huffy and act as if its use within a historic setting is a heinous crime against all humanity? No.

If you can't deal with it, please grow up.
