This movie sucked. Post if you agree.

It was beautifully filmed and I really liked the second segment of the film where he fell in love with the girl, but I just couldn't relate to the rest of it. It felt like there was nothing interesting to be gained or learned from it. I always try to approach things with an open mind, but this just showed me how worthless some buddhist principles are.

Edit: I feel like judged this film too strongly. While I still might not like it, I change my mind about what I said about it not being interesting and that there's nothing to be gained from it.

Yeh, I was really disappointed. Absolutely beautiful film but I didn't feel there was anything more to it. Actually couldn't wait for it to end.

I liked the part where the junior monk did kung fu exercises. The movie sucked a big deal. Master monk had nothing to do in his whole life except writing some sh!t on floor using cat's tail or grinding some medicinal herb. They never showed him eating or sh!ting. Do the monks not *beep*

Two things:

1) Yes, he WAS shown eating. At the very beginning of the Fall section. I think it was a taro cake.

2) What is the last movie you watched that showed someone taking a s**t? I'd hardly say such an omission is exclusive to this movie. And why would you even WANT to see that? I think it's safe to assume a character goes to the bathroom/sleeps/etc. without us needing to see it.

However, I do agree that there is generally no reason to show every detail in a film. Oddly enough, in Spring..., we do see him urinating about 9 or 10 minutes in.

Yeah. I was just warming to Kim Ki-duk before I watched this. It's just so inane, and I don't think I've seen another film with such sledgehammer symbolism.

I didn't hate it but I did have problems with it
1. I thought the murder plot was artificial and placed there just to have conflict. could he have just failed in the real world. Failed as a husband? Father? etc?
2. I thought the death of the old man by fire was a bit over done. His job was over, so he check out? Monk immolation has very heavy connotations due to images I have during the Vietnam war.
3. Did we really need the monk magic? I had a hard time reconciling a fairly realistic story (the first two sections) with the murder and the suicide in the last two or three parts.

It was beautiful and I really enjoyed the imagery of the animals. I really liked the cops helping them paint. It had great promise but failed to really move me.

I saw Time and liked it a lot better. Check it out.

One of the great things about this movie is that a bunch of idiots didn't post to it! A lovely film, but with all sorts of peaceful, helpful messages. Wish I had saved it for my wife to watch.

Overrated and animal abuse scenes extremely difficult to watch.
