just watched the two time capsule episodes culminating with the incident at the school and man alive. they're so so powerful and that kids acting is absolutely incredible. he completely nails the emotion of the character. it's crazy. such a powerful couple of episodes.
shareI have been re-watching a lot of the episodes of the entire series for the last few weeks and I kid you not, I have watched the school shooting episode about 6 times in the past 2 weeks. The acting by Colin Fickes (Jimmy Edwards) is phenomenal. When Jimmy breaks down in the class during Mouth's "... the bullies and the beaten and the loners" dialogue is it so emotional. The dialogue by Jimmy Edwards about their being "others" was amazingly well delivered.
Also, not sure if anyone noticed but at the beginning of the episode when you see Jimmy walk into the school he looks back and says "here we go", the camera shows a person behind him and then the camera points to the ground and shows at least two people walking behind Jimmy. So you're not sure if there are indeed "others".
That is what makes this series so special and unlike most teen orientated shows. That is makes you think.
Another episode like that is "Danny Boy". Listen carefully to the lyrics in the background when it's the scene between Dan, Haley, Lydia and Jamie.
Dan to Haley: You know, I never thought anyone was good enough for my son.
Lyrics: "I took you for granted"
The music lyrics definitely add to this series.
A bit related but unrelated. Before the school shooting episode, there's a narration by Chad Michael Murray talking about a service announcement at the end of the episode and white text on the screen to that effect. My download I have of the episode just ends during the end credits. Does anyone know if that announcement can be found online? I'd like to have a watch of it.
They did really well with it. I also like on this show how they don't drag story arcs out for ages, they are done with in a few eps, no time wasting or distractions.
You can really sense how he starts to feel like a trapped animal once his time capsule video is exposed. It was his one chance to get things out and he is betrayed.
He did really well. I think Mouth let things down though with his earnest acting style in the following eps though. I knew the time capsule was a bad idea too!
