When did he sing with Monkeys? That would have been entertaining. Now I want to sing with Monkeys. But I can't have pet monkies where I live.

Okay I just couldn't resist joking like that but no. I think swinging with monkeys at all period was considered too silly. Then again some people thought the monkies looked fake.

The scene felt fake, because you can't shoot a scene like that with real monkeys. That's the primary reason why so many movies feel like a live-action cartoons nowadays.

The scene is and always was awful because of its CGI (like the final fight in Black Panther). The over the top idea of swinging around in THIS situation is just what makes it even worse. If the scene had been used to e.g. escape the Russians after being captured and as a kind of Indy 3 "leap of faith" I had given it a pass. But not as part of the chase scene.
