When Jeff Daniel's character is cooking for his two sons and the son walks into the kitchen and catches his father putting their meal that fell onto the floor back into the pan.
Also when his son Walt walks in on his father and the young girl and you hear the father say "Put me in your mouth".
You forgot petty, cheap, judgemental, selfish, hypocritical, hyperintellectually pretentious, narcissist, a lecherous skirt-chaser and the worst parent to ever fertilize an egg.
<<I liked it when Bernard is looking for a movie to see with Walt and his girlfriend, and he says, "Blue Velvet is supposed to be pretty good." >>
Which only illustrates how much a pretentious snob Bernard is. He only suggested the Lynch picture because he probably figures Short Circuit is "for philistines". Near the end of the movie, when he's getting in the ambulance, doesn't he say he took his wife on a movie date to see a Godard film? The guy clearly has no clue about handling such things.
Gotta add the whole immature exchange during the meeting with the principal at Frank's school.
Principal: "I suppose it's possible other kids are masturbating and spreading their semen around the school as well... Possible, but somewhat, uh, unlikely."
Bernard: "Oh it happens I'm sure much more than we know"
Joan: "Bernard have you ever done anyting like that?"
So many good moments in this movie--good and uncomfortable. Probably the best movie I've seen which captures how divorce is for those involved. I think that they include the cat as part of their joint custody agreement was a nice touch.
The end of the movie with that Lou Reed song playing was cool.
The scene where Barnard tries, in vain, to save his marriage by promising to make more meals and Laura Linney just busts out laughing. I almost felt sorry for him.
When Barnard does a reading of his book with a sparse crowd. He views himself as this great artist, constantly dropping Mailer, but can't get more than 15 people to come see his book reading.
The scene where Walter and his friends are talking about having sex--one of them says something like "I bet she moves her **&ssy real good".
That whole scene is hilarious, from the "who's Hector?" to the "and of course, Frank's mother divorced me earlier this year, which also might have something to do with it."
when they sit the boys down to tell them they are seperating and right before the mom sits on the couch you hear a toilet flush and a door open and the older sun waves the air around his nose like it stinks and goes Ahhhh mom! and she says "Sorry"
"joy i'm so sorry, we weren't laughing at you...we were laughing WITH you" "but i'm not laughing"
The funniest scene is when Ivan and Bernard are arguing about Franks one handed back hand. Bernard says something like, McEnroe uses it and is the master of the chip game." Then Bernard asks Ivan if he wants to hit, and you see him getting his ass kicked.
Its funny watching bernard who is in tight jeans and a collared shirt, sweating and not being able to keep up with the game.
Haha, I pretty much found any scenes involving tennis hilarious. Especially the first one when Bernard was telling walt that joan had a weak back hand.
The great thing about dropping-the-meal-on-the-floor-scene, was Frank watching and rushing in to tell Walt : "he dropped the burgers on the floor". And then a little later during the meal, he tests his father by asking : "why did you say goddammit?"
When they are out to eat with the older sons girlfriend and she gets out some money to offer to pay, and you're thinking, "any normal person would refuse the money," but he takes it without even thinking about it with no exchange of words, just so fitting his character.
Fun Words to Say: Balzac, Schwumpleton, Kwosion, Clavicle.
Also when he is talking with the therapist and says, "Is that a PhD" and he goes, no its a Masters, and you know after that he's not going to have any respect for him, like someone with a master's is a total idiot. Fun Words to Say: Balzac, Schwumpleton, Kwosion, Clavicle.
It's especially funny because in the line immediately before, they expected the therapist to be just "a guy with a BA in psychology." When Walt finds out he actually has an MA in the field, he acts all snooty that it's not a PhD. Even though he apparently doesn't really know the difference.
How do you know they were both Franks? Well I supose it's possible other kids are masterbating and spreading their semen around the school as well. It's possible but uh, somewhat unlikely.. I'm sure it happens much more than we know. Bernard, have you ever done anything like that? I'm not going to answer that.
That's the cashew from near the beginning of the film. It comes out of his nose through the force of puking. Turns out he lied to his mum when he told her that it came out at the dinner table and he had it stuck up his nose for what had possibly been months.
Now THAT'S possibly the funniest scene in the film. The look of contentment on his face is really amazing, like everything's gonna be alright now that the nut came out of his nose.
'Haha, I pretty much found any scenes involving tennis hilarious. Especially the first one when Bernard was telling walt that joan had a weak back hand. '
Exactly. The tennis scenes killed me. Especially when Bernard told walt that Joan had a weak back hand. Brilliant

Oh man, thanks for clearing that up.
Actually, I found that scene very unfunny - part of what made this movie so great, IMO, the mixing of tragedy and comedy. I didn't get the same interpretation as you did from that part - found nothing comical there.
I agree about the scene where Daniels takes the girls money, as well as the Blue Velvet scene - in fact, the whole date with dad was a great set-up.
The movie had so many comical nuances, things I probably missed, but others got, and vice-versa, like the cashew bit.

when i first saw the n scene i was grossed out fir ten minutes then i got the connectionn to the begining
funniest part though when he is meeting with the guidance counselor and talking about his song he says that he could have written it and it was just a small detail it had already been written
