I am really shocked how hollywood tends to goof up indian names ! Kumar Patel are both last names ! how can a person be called kumar patel ! Same with the heros guy mohinder suresh....both first names ! and mohinder is a punjabi name and the guy in heros is south indian ! I think the script writers must get the names approved from some indian person

I don't give a *beep* but just for those who're calling this guy wrong, Kumar and Anand are used as first names, YES, but when this is done, the surname is not a commonly used surname. It's like a proper name with the surname and first name reversed.
But then, name is only a reference to a guy, why make a big deal out of it ?
I actually went to school with a Kumar Patel, so it certainly isn't "the first of its kind", nor is it somehow unnatural or ridiculous for the writers to have given him that name in the movie.
As for why people are giving the original poster a hard time, it's sort of a given that when someone makes absolutist statements in an outraged fashion without actually bothering to do a little research, they're almost begging other people who know better to come along and knock them down a few pegs. Had he presented his objections in a more rational, less emotional manner, he probably wouldn't be taking as much flack for it.

Although the name 'Kumar Patel' might be unique to a handful of individuals on the planet, it's a bit far fetched to say that a particular name 'cannot exist' and there 'cannot be any person in the world called' so and so. The world's a big place.
Especially when, if the only thing that makes it unusual is the fact that first and last name come from different cultures, then my own real-life name is apparently impossible (in spite of my actually, you know, having it), since I have a German-derived first name and a Scottish family name. Oh, and an Italian middle name.
For that matter, I actually used to know someone of Sri Lankan descent whose first name was Naomi, which is Hebrew. Clearly, she doesn't actually exist, however, since it apparently utterly impossible for anyone to ever have a name that comes from more than one culture.
