Worst moments of the show

The first one that sticks out in my mind, I caught it on T.V years ago and I think this was from the earlier seasons, possibly season 2 or three. There was a light skinned black girl in the bottom 2 who Tyra began to tell was not ''pretty enough'' and something about ''there are hundreds of girls prettier than you and you're here for your personality''. I was taken a back. What a awful thing to say and it was not even true. The girl was very attractive.

In cycle 9 when the Autistic girl was bullied and ganged up on by several girls in the house and had no place to sleep.

Tyra is a cold sexless supervillian who hates to be touched

you don't find her attractive?

reply

She’s attractive in a super model type of way I guess. Too skinny I think. No knock on her, just seems too fake

reply

That cycle where someone was supposed to win and then at the last moment it was taken away from her and they never explained why.

She's a vain, narcissistic bitch, a sellout and a nasty human being all around.

The worst moment on the show for me happened when she bawled out a black girl from the projects who the show had deliberately cast to make fun of as "ghetto" and also make her feel like a fish out of water. Staff members constantly made jokes about her (calling her a ghetto alien), and several scenarios were set up to humiliate her (such as taking all the girls to a fancy French restaurant, so audiences could laugh at her mangle French in her street accent, sounding like Forrest Gump).

She was clearly depressed after awhile and normally when contestants get like that, Tyra Banks will do her self-serving "girl power/you're awesome" powwow sessions but did nothing for this contestant, even though she started moping and talking about how she didn't fit in and wanted to go home.

When she was eliminated, Tyra Banks flew into a demonic rage because she had shown too much "relief." I guess the girl was supposed to cry, scream and howl with grief for being kicked off the show. In any rate, ever since I saw that episode, I quit the series. Seriously, she's such hateful See You Next Tuesday, she deserves to be sucker-punched. You're supposed to outgrow your mean girl phase as soon as you have your first period.

I just finished Season 4 where two girls were eliminated at the same time. Is that the one you mean? The black girl (who was also on season 2 and kicked out early) yelled back at her.

There's so much stuff in these early seasons that just wouldn't fly today and would get twitter going mental.

It's reality tv, so I do wonder how much of it was scripted though. The bar fight (this same girl in season 2) where they are throwing glasses seemed fake to me.

It might have been. I don't remember. I think the contestant's name is Tiffany.

reply

Who was your fave contestant? So far I'm thinking Yoanna from Cycle 2.

I haven't seen the show since the infamous incident that I'm talking about, so I don't remember much about who was on the show and which contestant I liked. The only one I vaguely recall rooting for was a contestant who had been brought on as a plus size model and then was canned halfway through the season.

I'm in season 4 now and there's an episode where the girls do a graveyard shoot just after one of the models' high school friend has just died. Makes me wonder if it was set up like that on purpose (assuming the story wasn't completely faked; it is reality tv) to see how she reacted.

Any scene featuring a runway that moved, or had something zooming over it, or was set high in the air. I just never understood the need to make walking down a runway death-defying - they are already wearing un-wearable art and extremely uncomfortable shoes. Plus, the whole point of these runways is to see the clothes, but if you're not paying attention to the clothes because you're excited for someone's death, then there's literally no point. It's especially weird because the judges were always heavily critical of how the contestants walked to begin with - so how the fk do you expect them to strut confidently while scared for their lives?
