In your opinion, what did it?

The ratings had been dropping the last few cycles. In your opinion, what do you think that made them go down? I say picking some of the contestants that she picked and letting people move forward that shouldn't have.

You just answered your own question. Modeling is an after thought. They pick some people that won't have success and give them false hope. Amanda, from cycle 3, said it best when she said ANTM isn't a modeling competition, it's a reality show.

-including men and making focus more on household relationships (even more than before)
-social media aspect. Once they release pictures beforehand, I'd look at them and then had little desire to watch the show just for drama since seeing what the photoshoot is is a bit part of the draw
-suddenly getting rid of the Jays and Nigel. You can't just change a whole judging panel and think that won't affect people's interest
-need to have a gimmick. I guess Tyra had given up on any legit chance of the show but this made it even more obvious
-I think she always picked people for drama over talent, but I would agree it got worse/more obvious

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

Reading previous answers, I think we're all on the same page.

1) Axing Nigel and the Jays, especially Jay Manuel. Judges were always changing but Johnny Wujek and Yu Tsai could never fill his shoes. Yu Tsai especially. He was absolutely terrible. I think THIS was what eventually killed the show.

2) Putting emphasis on the drama. Drama was always a part of the show, but the last few seasons they purposely picked drama queens and psychos. Like Devin, Bello, Romeo.. come on. But then again, Tyra's a drama queen herself, so...

3) Social media was a terrible idea.

4) Tyra being fake. Her awful music videos, the ridiculous made up words (that horrendous feel my boom boom commercial was the lowest point for me), and her overall behaviour. Maybe it's just me but the way she keeps forcing her facial expessions and the way she speaks is just so... overdone. The way she kept talking about her forehead and how she had a hard childhood every freaking season was too much. The way she thinks she can model, act, sing, run talkshows, do business... She's so wrapped up in herself.

5) The prizes kept getting worse every year.

6) During previous seasons they actually cared about how models dressed or carried themselves. There were numerous times when girls almost got sent home just because they wore something inappropriate. They had to do commercials and they made a huge fuss about it when some of them had accents.

6) Winners, preachiness, predictability. Like, making Ann Ward win just to teach everyone a lesson. Not trying to be rude, but the girl will NEVER have a serious modeling career.
Making Whitney win just so the show has a plus-size winner, when Anya was clearly better.
Double eliminations just for the sake of creating drama.
Also, last season it was SO obvious they had that photoshoot in the forest just to create drama around Nyle.

I used to love this show so much, I guess I still do, it was one of those realities that were "higher quality". Unfortunately, it ended up being trash.

I think the big thing that hurt the show was when they added the scoring. They did a good thing getting rid of social media scoring but the whole premise was just ridiculous. It basically screwed some of the better models out of a fair shot. I also believe some of the judges that departed from the show hurt ratings. I think when Nigel and the Jays left it hurt things. I think Mr. Jay was the best photo shoot consultant and the others brought in never really seemed to care for the models look me he did. Finally, I think Tyra was just running out of steam. Some photo shoot and commercial ideas were just ridiculous especially all the fake model products.

I agree with the majority of the responses. Cycle 16 was the last cycle I can watch. Everything after that was super gimmicky and annoying.

Too much change at one. Getting rid of Nigel and the Jays was the worst decision IMO but bringing in all new judges and then the new rating system which was pointless. Brian Boy was the most annoying person ever! And I wasn't a fan of either Rob.

Cycles 20 - 22 were so focused on drama and relationships that it felt like The Real World. The only reason I like C22 was because of Nyle and that is it. They should have done an all men season.

I didn't mind Kelly Cutrone too much but she is better balanced with Nigel on the panel.

What are you doing here? Five words or less.

I personally think it was the huge change of including/mixing male and female models. Yeah, it was a way to change it up, but I wasn't much into it because of the huge change in formula. I liked to watch all of the girls with different personalities on a level playing field compete. The guys just made it feel like a completely different show.

I agree. Most of the ridiculous changes from cycles 17-20 are tolerable, but once the men were introduced the show was unwatchable for me, which is sad because I always thought that having males on the show would be interesting, but if I want to watch bad relationship drama (and I don't) I can watch any of the other reality trash on television. It truly felt like a different show. There were some great models from these cycles, but the modeling stopped mattering, and I stopped watching. I will give the revamp a chance; here's to hoping it's a callback to cycles 1-16 and not gimmicky like 17-22.
