WORST MOVIE IN THE WORLD

Oh my God! There was not one likeable character in this movie, the dialogue was cliched and corny, the plot was unnecessarily complicated - there was just nothing coherent here at all! Puke! Awful! The writers need a spanking!!!

reply

Well who us us doesn't need a spanking? but as to the movie I too thought it was terrible but then, after thinking about it for a day or two, i came to realize just how very cool it really was. Matt Dillion's character really was complicated. Steve Zahn was wayyyy over the top and i could have done without his antics. The hooker he send to Dillion's room was just a superb performance. Applegate was better then i have seen her in a long time. I have since recommended this to everyone i know however no one has seen it becasue they don't take recommendations from guy's who think they need a spanking.

reply

Why do one need "likeable character" ? need to get into someone else's shoes ? Whant to stand for someone, go to a football match.
And about that hate: breed deep, a few times, it should pass (at least for a while).

reply

I agree, a likable character isn't really necessary. Just look at Closer, those people were a mess but that was still a good film. But this was awful.

reply

Interesting, I've never thought of "Employee of the Month" and "Closer" in the same breath, but there are some (slight) similarities. The main one being, of course, that I enjoy them both, but that both are very difficult movies to love.

reply

try watching "The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? " THAT is the worst movie ever made. Employee of The month looks like Citizen Kane compaired to it!!

reply

I enjoyed Zahn's "over-the-top" performance but his scene in the back of ambulence with the dead old people just went on waaaay too long....it wasn't integral to the plot and was obviously left in the film to showcase this guy's comic talent, but it was unnecessary.

reply

Though I did not like this movie, I did find Zahn's character to be entertaining in the beginning. Everything was over-the-top, with too many incoherent twists. I think that after a few plot twists you start to expect them and then it isn't a twist, just a crappy ending.

Don't jump to conclusion on it being "Worst Movie in The World" That distinction will always belong to "Battlefield Earth" Ahhhhhh I still get chills about that distasteful torturing movie.

These boards are intended for discussing and critiquing there are many movies I don't bash; however, this is a movie that I wish I hadn't spent time watching other than the beginning of Zahn's performance it sucked.

I agree, it's every member's right to log in and critique these films.

I feel this movie has a certain degree of hype it doesn't deliver on. It's rather aimless in terms of direction, and most of the actors (who have had great turns in other films), are wasted by the weak script. Those on this board who insist Matt Dillon is a "crappy actor" are either deluded or have never bothered to watch 'Drugstore Cowboy'.

Others can say what they want to defend this movie, but it seems like a lot of effort to defend something that isn't ever going to be viewed as a cult classic in any regards. It's attempt at balancing between a dark comedy and a plot-twisting thriller is futile when it succeeds in neither genres; it's more or less the 'Very Bad Things' of bank robbery films. For as much as that film was put down, I still admit I had a good time watching it; I also feel Peter Berg will eventually prove himself as a more competent director. But as for the guy that directed this film, that remains to be seen. After the final edit of this film, I'm not sure I'd want it on my resumè...

The most frustrating aspect of this independent film were the twists at the end that dispose of all the major characters. That's not a great payoff to someone who's taken the time to sit down and watch every minute of this film. Frankly, the movie felt pretty like there was little chance it could be salvaged, but a decent final plot twist could have helped rectify some of the film's order; but the ending wasn't typical of independent cinema in that it didn't leave the viewer with anything to consider afterward. What's the reward in watching this film?

reply

I agree. The ending was totally frustrating. The plot twists at the end made the whole movie incoherent. The main character´s off voice comments about life and society, the nature of his relationship with his fiancee, the depiction of his friend´s unusual character, etc, all are thrown overboard for the sake of a pseudo "Wild Things" scenario. Frankly, not worth seeing.

<quote>There was not one likeable character in this movie, the dialogue was cliched and corny</quote>

I'll agree the dialogue was at times cliché and corny. The plot was not unnecessarily complicated. It was complicated but not overly so since most of the 'complications' were at the end.

as far as likeable characters that's relative and I would simply say as otheres before me why do characters hvve to be likeable they just have to be believable and they are.

reply

I wouldn't exactly call this the WORST MOVIE IN THE WORLD.

This was in the same category as Wild Things and Wild Things 2. Matt Dillon was also in Wild Things.

I wasn't expecting the ending at all, where Wendy and Sara get smashed in their car by a truck. I thought Wendy was going to kill Sara or vice versa. This movie kept me on my toes and thought the pace and emotion was highly entertaining.

Jack's character was quite funny. I especially loved his line in the sauna.

I could name movies much worse than this, example being House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, and High School Musical.

reply

I loved every part of this movie it was original well atleast to steve zaungs regular movie and im a big fan and loved the movie.

reply

I agree with you. How could this be 'the worst' or even bad when we all watched the whole thing, caught all the twists and laughed (LMAO in my case). Some of these movies that rate fairly well barely hold my attention all the way thru. Sure the twists were too much and too many and the humor was 'over the top'... Uh, I think that was the point. "Geez he sucks ____ and you're ripping me for a few beers!?" That was funny. Different people like different things sure but I didn't waste my time. In fast I think I'll watch it again.

reply

matt dillon is a bad actor, plain and simple. steve zahn one of my favs but he tried too hard and his comments weren't even funny. go back to saving silverman steve.

I agree with most of what is being said her... I can't stand Matt Dillon, but am a huge Kevin Dillon fan so I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. This movie was terrible for many reasons, the most of which being the lack of direction through the entire film up until the bank robbery. Every twenty minutes or so I kept thinking to myself, "What is the point of this film? Where is it going?" This could've been a good straight forward heist film with some decent characters and some funny scenes. Instead we're relegated to a piece of crap psuedo-"worst day of life film," and shown the only good parts during the credits. What a waste.

3/10 (2 for Dave Foley's appearance alone, I hardly see him pop up in anything)
