The MOST DEPRESSING movie I have EVER seen!!

I mean... This is coming from a guy that has Black Swan, Atonement, Memoirs of a Geisha, 21 Grams, La Vie en Rose, A beautiful mind, The Hours, Melancholia...etc on his top 20 list, most of these movies can be REALLY depressing...

But this, This is WAY over the top, i mean i loved Christian's performance and the story was interesting to me, but i thought the director took it to a whole new level with the depression, IT WAS NOT FUN TO WATCH!! i still have a headache from watching it at 1:00 am .

Overall this movie isnt everybody's cup of tea, u either love it or u hate it. i gave it a 6/10

The most depressing movie ever for me is Lost In Translation. Gets me every time. Love this film though, one of my favourites

Yeah, well, you know, that's just like... My opinion, man

This movie is uplifting bro give Leaving Las Vegas a watch that is the benchmark fo depressing movies

reply

I agree. I'm watching it right now and I'm debating whether or not I even want to finish it.

reply

I hope you did finish it. Personally I didn't think it was depressing. Heartbreaking, yes, but ultimately there's an explanation and a solution to Trevor's suffering, and I thought the ending was positive and optimistic.

NONE of the movies listed by you are depressing. A Beautiful Mind? You know that's considered a feel good movie right? Try Grave of The Fireflies makes all the movies listed on here look like light comedies. Even Requiem For a Dream. Grave of the Fireflies is Beautiful, but I wanted to slit my wrists after watching it.

That's a terrible top-20

Original post is old, but warrants continued responses. This movies doesn't even rank in my top 20 of most depressing movies, probably not even the top 50 that I've seen. Noticeably absent from the OP's list are truly depressing movies like Leaving Las Vegas. This was just a great psychological thriller without a happy ending.

Some of my other honorable mentions in the depressing movies category, in no particular oder(not to be confused with movies that merely have a very sad ending, since that would be a long list):

The English Patient
Philadelphia
The Virgin Suicides
The Wrestler
When A Man Loves A Woman
Gone With The Wind
Schindler's List
The Pianist
Saving Private Ryan
The Grapes of Wrath

Some movies you may also enjoy if you liked this movie:

Stay
Jacob's Ladder
Identity
Meet Joe Black
