So basically the overall message of this movie is that...
... we shouldn't have to totally forgive or like such individuals but we should be able to understand them without total knee jerk outrage, yes?

shareSOMETHING LIKE THAT.
shareThat's not happening here. My former childhood best friend is in prison for attempting to meet 12-year-olds at hotels. If he gets out of prison and shows up here, I'm calling the police immediately. I live next to a high school and wouldn't want anything to happen to the kids nearby.
shareWhat was your childhood best friend like when you were around him?
shareAs kids, he was responsible, clean, and a big fan of wolverine. You could count on him for anything. He loved movies and comics. We grew up together working on the local farms, fixing our cars, and going to the theater 20 miles away (closest ones to us). He loved sports, but never tried out. He had his first girlfriend at 18. He got turned down a lot before that. We started out as friends at 8 years old.
He met his ex wife before going to basic. After basic he disowned his family and lived at her parent's house. It was strange. He left for a deployment and her last words to him were, "i hope you die." After a tour in Iraq, he divorced his wife, drank a lot, couldn't keep a job, and avoided all responsibility. He dated a fat girl who was 18. She had younger sisters. They sat on his lap which was strange. A week later he was arrested for the first time ever. He was put in a psych ward for a year. They released him and the girlfriend bought him an iPhone (which went against the court orders). He was arrested again three days later.
It's been a long time since I've seen this film. But yeah, there is some sympathy created for the main character, which happens to be a molester.
I kind of view this like most paraphilia's, there is no explanation for them. Some people just have weird attractions.
Having an understanding of the situation is probably better than the "kill'em all" approach. The unfortunate truth is that there probably is a pedophile born every minute.
In fact, youtube used to post the age group of viewers on each video and anytime a preteen girl would post a video, there was always a really old age group watching it. lol..
Like 40s-50s and up...
Not sure if youtube still does this but apparently there's a lot of guys from all over the world that are into this sort of thing. I guess it's some kind of "daddy/little girl" fetish. I call it a 'fetish' because it really can't be described as anything else.
Also, I have read at least several reviews around this film that were suggesting that we shouldn't "hate those individuals too much" and that we are actually paying a price for seeing them as "monsters" rather than simply "guilty human beings" etc.
But I wonder...
Aren't we ALREADY paying the price for the fact that such individuals exist, act on their desires and then cause great or other form of damage to their victims and their families.
And would lessening knee jerk outrage REALLY help the overall matter even if it can't simply eradicate the problem? Thanks.
