Who the hell sells a train ticket to an unsupervised 9 year old?

Maybe he Home Alone'd it and said his dad was out of town/mom was in the car waiting, in the bathroom, somewhere in the train station, etcetera. He is one of the smartest of the Baker kids, after all.

Back then most trains did not bother with asking Kids for Tickets.

When I was 8-15 I use to take the train/sometimes amtrack to my dads, because it stopped at both my mom and dads towns train stops.

The amount of times a conductor would walk past me when I was 8-12 and not ask me for a ticket or anything was huge, most of the time they just assume you are with a parent and the parent is in the bathroom or maybe on the phone in another car.
