Yep, I did it a lot as a child, and occasionally now if I REALLY REALLY want something. I don't think it's OCD if you only do it occasionally.
Also, I know when I do it that it won't really work that way - it's just an indication of the importance of the thing, of how much I want to do ANYthing to get whatever it is.
That's the way I saw it working with her, although she seems to really believe it might work, she gets so depressed when she doesn't get a definitive answer.
Re what someone said about the "twisted way" that the items worked out: I liked the way that they were so completely open-ended, yet she still believed he was coming back.
