So she loves animals but hates humans?

At one point in this movie, our main character played by Charlize Theron of course claims she loves animals.

Then later halfway through the movie she empathically states about how awful humans are in general and that they kill for politics, for religion and often for no real valid reason at all.

But then animals aren't exactly saints either. They too at times hurt and even downright kill other innocent animals and not just for stuff like food and shelter.

Its also because, unlike humans, animals just don't have the capacity perhaps to wage destruction on such a scale that we do and that involves the annihilation of other humans for "reasons" she mentioned in that scene.

And not all humans perhaps are evil and destructive monsters. Not to mention, we actually REALIZE our wrongs and often empathically protest against it, even if it may often sadly have zero effect for various obvious reasons.

But why in her mind such a huge gap that basically involves an extremely positive feelings towards one group of beings and an opposite extreme towards another - not to mention, we are animals and Darwin even states that we have originated from apes ourselves.

What do you think, thanks.

Most people think of animals as pets or exhibits in zoos. We think of dogs cuddling and playing in the house. We think of cats lying in the sun and purring. The lion sleeps behind walls. Gorillas sit around and look back through the glass. In reality, their natural state is one of hunting and altercation on top of developing offspring. We see this on TV, but rarely has anyone been the subject of the hunt. Talking to people who live with these animals in their natural state, they think differently. That isn't to says that there won't be respect or an effort to maintain a population.

I grew up working on a farm. We think of Cows and bulls as peaceful animals who just graze. But once that bull gets out of the pen and sees you, it won't think twice to come at you. Horses are also violent before their broken. I had a sister who was nearly killed by one. Then there were Badgers who would set up mounds nearby or take shelter in the barn. That's unnerving because you don't want to mess with them. Chickens are fairly brutal. I have some now and they will kill just because their bored and they want more space.

We see and understand how humans behave in our daily interactions. It's easy to see them all as bad because we understand what should be good. But, that isn't always practiced and unfortunately, some people are the subject of those horrible behaviors more than others. I don't blame her for her perspective, but that doesn't excuse her murders.

" I don't blame her for her perspective, but that doesn't excuse her murders."
Well, as far as the murders carried out by her are concerned, it wasn't that perspective alone that drove her to it, as we saw in this movie. )

Also, I know its nit picking and whatnot, but her friend in that scene that listened to her, why couldn't she retort her point at least to an extent and state "But animals aren't all innocent either, they also kill etc" and whatnot?

Even if animals sometimes kill for reasons other than the need for food or to protect themselves, it's not the same as when humans murder each other. Animals have not developed a code of morality or laws. Animals lack the intellectual capacity to come up with the concept of right and wrong.

As for Darwin, he did not state that we originated from apes. He said both we and apes evolved from common primate ancestors.
