Ebert does not get it.
Great critic that he is I find sometimes he wouldn`t know good horror if it bit him in the arse. Here`s the link:

He really did miss the mark majorly with this film. First of all he didn't get it, secondly he could of gotten it easily if he just re-watched to the first 5 minutes. Thirdly even if he did get it, which he didn't he completely overlooked how amazing the film was before the ending.
shareThe fact that he talks about "plot holes so large that a truck is driven through" tells me he missed the opening scene where Marie is in the mental hospital being recorded by the cops, and begins giving her version of the story. If that scene didn't exist, the plot would have more holes than Swiss cheese.
shareNo. The plot hole Ebert referred to is the scene with the truck and the decapitated head. If Marie is telling her side of the story and her version of how the events unfolded, then the decapitated head scene does not work. Marie wasn't there to see it and how exactly would that have fitted into her story as she is supposedly telling it to the police? It doesn't.
