Why are great horrormovies always so low imdb-rated

It is almost impossible to find a great horrormovie above 7.0 in imdb-rating.

Movies like this one, which I found to be extremely good.

Before getting the lust for horrormovies, I used the imdb-ratings as a guidance, and I usually would not watch movies below 7.0.

But when I got the urge for these movies, I have to find other sources for recommendation, or at least accepting a whole other spectrum of rating.

Its impossible for a gore-feast like this to get a high rating, but I wonder why the ones who score it down watches a movie like this. In the horror-genre it does not come much better than this, I think :)

good point. 6.8 is actually very good for a horror film, especially one with ample violence.

People don't like it when they get scared. I've found 5-6 is usually a good tier horror movie. 3-4 mediocre but worth a watch still i you are a horror fan. 1-2 is garbage movies.

Completely agree with OP. I'd never heard of this film and kinda watched it not knowing anything about it, on Horror Channel (UK) the other night. Was a refreshing surprise, beats the socks off most 'Hollywood' horrors etc.

IMDb is full of pussies. That's why.

Horror films are really hard to rate.

i was thinking about this too- its because i guess theres so many dramatic things happening or so much suspension of disbelief happening that it turns some people off while others love it
Ive noticed that in the case of horror movies you may think that 'X' movie was awesome while it got an extremely low rating while on the other hand you might see a mediocre movie with a low rating but see people posting about how awesome it is. Theres something about horror movies-its remarkably different for each person-more so than any other genre i would guess.

It's actually simple, Horror isn't everybody's cup of tea. Also, Horror and Comedy are very hard to rate because taste in humor or what scares you are highly subjective and differ from person to person tremedously.

Generally, any movie rated 6 or higher is at least a solid movie and probably a good one for you if you like the genre. That's what you have to keep in mind when going by IMDb rating. I mean, a rating of 8 is the border to Top250, so any movie with a rating of 7 is obviously quite strong if you factor in that any given movie will always have it's haters that vote it 1. For comedy, horror and certain niche gernes you just have to subtract 1. Even for other, more mainstream genres I found out that often times movies rated between 6 and 7 can be of high quality, it's just that they may contain uncommon themes, controversial topics or that they have a non-mainstream ending (unhappy endings for example). Oh and those that offend certain groups. "Paul" for example was excellent and a riot throughout but there are alot of religious nutjobs out there that voted it down because they felt offended.

I personally hated this movie, the english dubbing alone made me want to turn it off. The dubbing was absolutely awful and cheesy. I have seen my fair share of horror and gory movies but I just found this disgusting and that's it.

Yeah, I'm kind of bummed that this one has a pretty low score. I love it. There's also a kickass Hong Kong horror film called Dream Home that only has a 6.6 and I think it's brilliant.

am I paint?
