Wow i finally watched HT after a long wait. I was waiting to watch it with a friend and after all this time it sucked. It made no sense. The blowjob part at the beginning had nothing to do with the rest of the movie? How does the killer drive both the yellow car and the truck at the same time?? The ending was absolutely shizzit. I know I have already read the other threads. NO ONE can justify the plot holes. If its not in the movie then it doesn't exist. You shouldn't have to watch a dang movie then go online to try and make sense of the wide gaping plot holes. THE MOVIE SUCKED boys are girls. I wanted so bad to like it but nope. CRAP writing. The masturbation scene was kinda hot. Other than that, SUCKS! I know that calidanman or whatever his piss, defends it with shining armor but deep down hes full of shight and he knows it. Often time the losers who had something to do with the film like craft services come on here and defend crappy movies like eric forzberg.. he sucks too by the way. Just wanted to say me piece.
This movie is easy to understand, what is not easy to understand is the lazyness of the writer. This is a good gore movie, i liked it a lot, but he tried to disguise the propose of the movie with a somewhat deep ending that is pulled together badly. To explain the plotholes saying "it's all in her head" that's just lazy. I saw other movies with twists that made sense if you think back in the story but this one is just too plain. If you think that a story is only a dream or a alucination of course anything can happens even if it doesnt even make any sense.
Oh really? And you are a medical expert? Please, do not come on here and pull an opinion out of your ass and try to pass it off as a medically proven fact. Please show me your credentials, or better yet, please show me the "study" that proves what you're saying...that "most" people with a psychological disorder could not pull off a murder. And by the way...what are you talking about perfect murder? This happened in the middle of the night at a farm in the middle of nowhere...nothing was really perfect about the murders. She just went crazy and snapped.
Actually I think what they meant to say was dissociative identity disorder(300.14 according to the diagnostics and statistics manual for of mental disorders IV-TR)...not schizophrenia...as this person has none of the symptoms or diagnostic features of schizophrenia; however, has many of the "cookie cutter" movie ideas that usually accompany dissociative identity disorder. Although the charicter does follow enough patterns of dissociative identity disorder to probably be diagnosed, though, there has never been a reported case of someone with this disorder ever killing anyone according to the American Psychiatric Association's list of statistics. Most people with severe mental conditions could not pull off a murder...let alone this degree. In fact the most common mental condition to be related to acts of violence and serial/spree murder is Antisocial Personality Disorder (301.7). If the movie is following a pattern of her having Antisocial Personality Disorder and lying even with the video evidence, than I would say there is a decent chance of her being diagnosed as a type of APD and trying to get her way out of actually getting in trouble for it. If the movie is following the pattern of her switching back and forth between personalities...then there is a lot of creative license taken here and a couple of decent plot holes (unless you want to take them as metaphors) and the events probably never could have occured in real conditions. Also, I would assume that by "perfect murder" they meant successful...killing an entire family without being stopped by one of them with the routine that the killer follows may be sloppy, but would be alot different than this movie portrayed; and alot of what the killer did in the first half of the movie does not agree with the organized/disorganized patterns that are outlined in the Crimes Classification Manual.
Now that I've given the "medically proven fact" (you can read the DSM-IV-TR and look at the APA statistics if you want to check and reference them) that you wanted so badly, I must say that the suspense in this movie was great. I was practically holding my breath for the first half of the movie. I didn't like the ending, but that's not a big deal...it entertained me either way...and with a lot of the explainations that people have given in this thread...I could see this movie making more sense if I watch it a second time. I like the occasional horror with a "wtf" ending...but this one would have probably done better to have gone with a straight ending and gone out as an amazing thriller/horror. Honestly if you really want a head scratcher...watch some of david lynch's films...like mulholland drive, lost highway, or even the twin peaks show.
^^ Haha. You have not given any facts. Show me proof. You can't just come on here and say something and finish with "and I really mean it" and then say "there, that's a fact!". Show me a study where doctors did tests on people with these conditions to find out if they could or could not commit a murder. I could easily do the same thing you just did, watch...
"Actually even though someone suffers from a personality disorder does not mean that they are incapable of doing things or committing acts of violence. These type of people can still commit a murder and take someone's life just like anyone else.........and that's a FACT"
See? I just gave you my opinion and then finished with "that's a fact". That doesn't mean anything.
Like I said, show me a study or a test that was done by licensed professionals that "proves" that "most" people suffering from mental disorders similar to the one in the movie could NOT pull off a murder. If you can't show me that test then you are irrelevant and I will stick to my original issue "I hate when people come on here and try to pass their opinion off as pure fact"
First off...I never said, "and I really mean it" to my knowledge. Next, it would be illegal to do testing to see if a person with a medical condition could committ murder. If a doctor did, they would be barred from the APA and probably looking at jail time, and I think you're banking on that so that no one ever has to show you proof and shut you up. Just want to put this out there for you as well...DID(300.14) is a mental imparement...which illudes to the fact that it does make them "incapable of doing things." As a licensed professional who has worked in mental institutions for the last 9 years, I can tell you that most of the people with these conditions cannot carry out basic every day tasks with any regularity, let alone murder. And as far as facts go...I gave you the lists of places you can look to find the facts (read the DSM-IV-TR and look at the APA statistics information)...but you're apparently limited to use of imdb and have not bothered to check on those facts yet. Before you post today letting me know how I'm dim or something of that nature (which appears to be your general niche with people on this site), please do your research. Also I said I enjoyed the movie, and the first 3/4 of it was some of the best filmmaking I've seen in quite a while in this genre...so what is your deal? In most of the posts on this website, you're just going off on people who didn't like the movie, or had a question about the movie...are you really just looking to pick a fight with anyone and everyone over anything?
i'm not a criminal psychologist, and i am willing to buy that this Marie has a split personality. In fact, I'm even willing to buy that at times when the killer personality is active, she is simply observing. Like in the scene where the mother is killed and Marie is "hiding" in the closet.
But what about the scenes where the killer is actively running around, say, shooting a little boy in a cornfield or driving a truck, and both Marie and Alex is together. Obviously, Alex is reacting to Marie. She is squealing, and moaning, as if Marie is really there, in both the truck and the bedroom. so what gives? in fact, Marie was even there consoling Alex right after the shotgun went off..
Yes, u can then say that it was all a made up sequence of events. i'm not saying its impossible, it is VERY possible. but in terms of storytelling, you have to admit it is kind of lazy and overly reliant on its twist.
in all fairness, this isnt meant to be a high brainer movie, so i'm not at all disappointed, just slightly unconvinced by the director's effort to tell a story. even the twist, at times, contradicts itself. but it is what it is, a movie about gore and killing, and i guess, that much delivers.
i have been reading the thread and other as well, and i gotta say, calidanman, you have a certain way of rubbing people the wrong way. even if you make valid points, and have strong supported ideas, the way you come off still pretty much makes you a jerk. lighten up, why are you so angry and defensive??
^^ Oh well, just my personality. You can't change your personality. And I refuse to change my personality because some random person online thinks I'm a jerk. By the way, it might have something to do with me constantly giving facts (supported by the Director himself) and the non-believers STILL refusing to believe and going "but what about this......." and "what about that???!!!?" even after I've explained it a hundred times. If you think it's lazy story-telling then go right ahead and think that...I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is people saying "this movie makes no sense" and then using examples that obviously DO make sense, they just aren't getting it.
This movie does not make sense, I'm not even going to list the reasons why as I think others have already done that in a good way.
And facts given from the director? woah, the director doesn't think his movie is full of plotholes? what a surprise..
I usually don't watch much horror movies, but I think this was a pretty good one to be honest.. Until the twist, and what a lazy twist it was. Like so many others it seems I felt completely cheated. Like someone earlier said, a twist SHOULD be some turn of events that makes you reflect on the previous happenings in the movie and think "woah, this makes so much logical sense now that I've seen how things really are.." A movie has to stick to some logic, even if that logic is not real and just an 'internal logic' for the movie itself and it's context which this did not. Otherwise its lazy writing.
BUT.. I did enjoy this movie, it was intense, exciting and good fun for a monday night such as this. Lazy writing or not, it was a good horror movie for 4/5 parts of the films duration.
..And gtfo with your "you didn't get it" attitude Caliman. I'm no film critic or a cinema professor but I'm certainly not stupid either. And please, no smart remarks on my english, I'm neither from the UK or the US.
Not everything is a plothole, some things are meant to be potholes. Seriously though... With media saturation as high as it is these days, screenplays must take the extra mile with the story. I didn't see it coming. And the conclusion was entertaining enough.
