Wow i finally watched HT after a long wait. I was waiting to watch it with a friend and after all this time it sucked. It made no sense. The blowjob part at the beginning had nothing to do with the rest of the movie? How does the killer drive both the yellow car and the truck at the same time?? The ending was absolutely shizzit. I know I have already read the other threads. NO ONE can justify the plot holes. If its not in the movie then it doesn't exist. You shouldn't have to watch a dang movie then go online to try and make sense of the wide gaping plot holes. THE MOVIE SUCKED boys are girls. I wanted so bad to like it but nope. CRAP writing. The masturbation scene was kinda hot. Other than that, SUCKS! I know that calidanman or whatever his piss, defends it with shining armor but deep down hes full of shight and he knows it. Often time the losers who had something to do with the film like craft services come on here and defend crappy movies like eric forzberg.. he sucks too by the way. Just wanted to say me piece.
I stopped taking you serious as soon as you said "the masturbation scene was kind of hott"
What are you, 9 years old? And I also thoroughly enjoy how you have never ever met me in your entire life, yet you seem to think you know me better than I know myself. What do you mean "CaliManDan KNOWS he's full of *beep* Really? I do? I actually am not full of *beep* But thank you for taking a guess.
The fact that you admitted to reading all the other threads yet STILL decided to post a topic that has been posted about 30 times, shows your ignorance.
I stopped taking you serious as soon as you said "the masturbation scene was kind of hott"
OMG lol you're sick dude! She was masterbating with a decapitated head and you got horny? Slap yourself in the head right now and go to bed you are being punished for being a sicko. Tomorrow go buy yourself a porn so that you can get horny about normal stuff lol
As for the movie, yeah it has a bunch of plotholes that even the most imaginative person couldn't cover but it is such a great horror movie that I have learned to accept it.
By the way....the movie makes perfect sense. Your argument "you shouldn't have to go online after watching a movie to make sense of it" means nothing. It's not the movie's fault that YOU didn't understand it. You're the one with the brain, try to use it.
If u understand the movie so well how about u explain it to the rest of us because that *beep* didn't make any damn sense. Just like the op said I shouldn't have to go online to try and figure out what the hell was going on in the movie.
And just like I said...it's not the movie's fault that YOU didn't understand it. Certain movies are harder to understand than others, that doesn't make them "dumb". And if you think I'm going to spend the time to explain this movie to you just like I have to at least 30 other people then you're crazy. I've posted a bunch of times in a ton of different threads answering peoples questions and explaining every little detail to them. So if you want to know really bad, go search the threads.
I don't need u to explain this movie to me because u can't. No one can explain this movie it's retarted. He threw a twist in the end that contradictid most of the movie. the whole she's retelling the story from her point of view doesn't justify the writer throwing a whole bunch of *beep* together.
lol dude, just stop. You are trying to prove me wrong and say that I can't explain the movie to you but you are wrong. If you want proof, just stop being a lazy ass and search some of the threads and you will see post after post after post by ME, explaining every little detail about the movie and what it means and why it does make sense.
I'm not going to repeat myself for the 100th time and explain it all over again in THIS thread. Like I said, search if you want the answers. If you're too lazy to search then thats your problem.
I've just read most of these threads and no one has explained anything. All i've read is you insulting people. Why are you on every post anyway? u have way too much time on your hands instead of arguing with people why don't you find a logical expalination for that terrible twist. Face it the movie was horrible and the twist was a moronic version of fight clubs
Knismo, why don't you go and crit a movie you understand. This movie is obviously way too complex for your brain.
You have difficulty understanding the movie so to you that makes the movie crap which means that everyone else must find it crap.
If someone had trouble understanding a movie that you personally enjoyed and understood does that make the movie crap just because they couldn't understand it?
Fair enough, you hated the movie but I doubt anyone will take the time to explain this movie to you because you seem impossible to reason with.
jl-riley ... very well said. Thank you. That is what I have a problem with the most. Is these people that don't understand this movie so they resort to calling it crap.
I like how some people say "it's too complex for you to understand" or...
"you lack the mental capacity..."
this movie is anything but complex and smart. people that really liked it and seem like they would defend it to the death just seem to need to latch on to this movie for whatever reason...
I must butt in here, having just watched the film myself, and also say that it makes perfect sense; in fact I'm confused why so many people have issue with it, it's not rocket science. It's cleverly put together, moreso than I expected, and I would say anybody who claims to understand the movie and is able to answer people's questions....probably can
I just saw this movie and was very unimpressed by it but more so with the comments on this thread/board.
1. To the people saying "get over it, its just a movie"... please stop. Films are a part of our lives and when we watch them we're supposed to analyze and feel a certain way whether it be angry, sad, scared, whatever. The fact that it is a movie gives everyone who watched it the justification to get riled up.
2. The alter ego thing a weak element in this film. While as one poster mentioned that it's possible Maria putting herself in the eyes of a witness instead of participating, it's still weak considering that she's doesn't witness every murder or all the events and is constantly hiding and looking for phones and a way out while hearing shuffles and screams. The directors choice to not give a clear point of view or character alignment ruins that theory.
3. The only and most plausible explanation I see for this film is as one poster mentioned its Maria telling her side of the story from the start of the movie.
YET it all still doesn't make sense because it doesn't explain all the girls on the rear view mirror at the start, or the blood in the van, or the van at all, or the chase scene, or the time frame of when everything happened, or the blowjob scene at the beginning.
4. And to the people saying it's not supposed to make... that shows that the film is a poorly written COP OUT. To say none of it happened, it was all Maria the whole time is an insult to viewers and if it was directed better from one point of view then ok there'd be justification but it didn't which is why the tension it creates doesn't pay off and makes the film 'bad.'
blah blah blah. You aren't bringing anything new to this discussion. Everything you said has already been said about 50 times before. You say it's a "weak" story-line. I say it isn't. What makes you right and me wrong?
You are just as clueless. A compelling "opinion" can't make another opinion wrong. That's just what an opinion is....a personal taste. Your argument is that since the person made a compelling argument about their "opinion" then that makes them right. This is not true. But nice try.
The other person provides a compelling argument to support their view.
You fail.
Your argument is that since the person made a compelling argument about their "opinion" then that makes them right. This is not true. But nice try.
Gee.
I generally get on here to discuss things with other people. I wasn't aware we were just vomiting our opinion without at least attempting to have some kind of intelligent conversation.
I've read three or four of your posts. And this is all you've done. I have no reason to read anything else you write.
Keep stating your opinion. That works so well for you.
Pardon the typos, I'm to longer using a QWERTY keyboard. reply share
A lot of what happens in this film is in Maria's head. I don't get why people can't see that. Everything is not literal. I hope you never read the Bible, your head would explode trying to understand all the "plot holes".
But without the twist ending, the movie becomes even more of a rip off of Dean Koontz book! It's so funny people get mad about the ending, without knowing the REAL reason it ended that way. Yes be mad, but for the right reason! Its a rip off. Read the book, if you want the real ending! http://www.beyondblackwhite.com/-My community
I am 100% confident you cannot name me five horror films that create more tension than this film (especially the first hour). Your list will say a lot about your taste in horror, which i am guessing, sucks.
This has to be one of the most retarded threads I've ever read in my entire life. Why did you even respond to the OP? Why am I responding to you? He didn't try to start a discussion, he used the thread to hate on two people he dislikes.
And well, CaliDanMan, you are kinda a douche man...*tries to direct OP to previous posts, doesn't work*, *tries again*, *reads a "you fail" post and turns juvenile.* That's you. Get over yourself.
Great movie by the way. (See? no real movie discussion, just a good old bash! you know you love it, you start it every time you can!)
It takes a douche to know a douche right? I guess if I'm a douche by your standards, then you're definitely a douche by mine. At least I discuss this movie. I haven't seen your name on one other thread except this one...calling me a douche. Hmmmm, says a lot.
GAAAAHHHH you all are retarded. Yes, the movie did an excellent job of building tension and would have been a classic if it werent for the stupid ass plot twist that defies any and all logic. Even if you can buy the 3 or 4 different scenes where Marie is interacting with multiple people, the one thing that nobody can logically explain is where the hell did she get the truck? Its absolutely absurd in any universe, ours or the movie's, to believe that this tiny girl would be able to figure out where her friend's farm is, go find a rape-van, bring it out to the french countryside, hide it where nobody could find it, wait till night, go get her rape-van, kill a grown man, then a mother who would be fighting for her children's lives, and then somehow manage to track a little kid through a cornfield when its PITCH BLACK outside. It's poor writing and no amount of saying "the movie was too smart for you to understand" will change that.
Just watched the movie.. I also had trouble understanding the end of this, but no trouble in understanding that this is an awesome and very tense->hidingundermypillow horror movie. @the ones who don't understand it: stop watching porn and use your head (or try) to think logical.. try to combine things, facts, information in your head and with a little bit of imagination you'll surely come to a solution ;) I'm sure that's what I'll be doing the next few hours. cheers!
I agree the film is told from her point of view, but there are some discrepencies even with this explanation. I loved the film, but the 'haters' of the film do have some valid points. the gas station camera scene is in the midst of her story (it's not shown at the end like you claim). Along with the severed head scene at the on-set and the final chase scene where she changes back-and-forth between personalities. These scenes don't really make sense in her re-telling of the events, even if she is crazy.
My opinion is the film is basically her psychotic re-telling of the events with the director implementing some scenes that don't make sense in the context of the film but serve a purpose.
Severed head- shows the underlying rage boiling underneath the surface of marie, remember, this scene is shown after alex tells marie she liked hooking up with the guy she ditched marie for
Gas station camera- shows us that marie is the killer
Final chase- shows us marie has a split personality and the two are in conflict
Great movie though! Perhaps my favorite horror film.

Agreed.
Don't eva let nobody tell you you ain't strong enough
SM-MEEHAN.....I tend to agree with most of what you post on this movie but I don't understand what your argument is about the gas station scene not making sense. It clearly shows the male killer kill the gas station attendant. It's not until the police are reviewing the film that we actually see Marie putting an axe into the gas station attendant and standing there looking at the camera. So where is the plothole that you are saying is there??
When we see the male killer kill the gas station attendant (that is Marie telling her story to the cops). Then we switch to REAL-TIME, when it shows the police reviewing the film. Marie is no longer telling a story, at least not at this very moment, and the police see on the tape that Marie kills the gas station attendant. So once again, I'm sorry if I'm missing something, but where is the plothole??
i felt the revealing of marie as the killer was told within the context of marie's re-telling the story to the police. but you could be 100% correct and that scene is the first scene which takes us away from marie's insane recollection of the story to the actual events...that actually makes sense. perhaps the ending scene with marie chasing alex was "real" too where the director shows marie alternating personalities on the screen to symbolically show the viewer the rage and split personality within her. therefore, marie's story ends after her fight with the killer and the rest of the story is no longer her version but actual events. i think you are right actually.
Along with the severed head scene at the on-set and the final chase scene where she changes back-and-forth between personalities. These scenes don't really make sense in her re-telling of the events, even if she is crazy.
The way I understand it is that we are seeing the events according to Marie's bogus statement (not necessarily from her point of view), and the part near the end where the "twist" is revealed is where her story becomes too farfetched and has major discrepancies with the actual events (e.g., the gas station surveillance tape, the second car, killing the killer before everyone has died, Alex stabbing the killer when Marie is the one with the wound). I don't think the identity switching at the end necessarily indicated that she had an alter-ego; rather, the story was switching back and forth from Marie's statement to what actually happened in order to illustrate how her statement is inconsistent with the evidence.
She may have multiple personality disorder and actually believe what she is saying, or she may just be a sociopath who is deliberately lying in her statement. Either way, she is making up a story that is not consistent with what really happened, so I think the fact that it doesn't make sense is part of the point: it proves that she is not being truthful. It works (for the most part), but I won't deny that it was lazy on the writers' part to say, "She's making up the story, so anything goes and it doesn't have to make sense because it's a lie". I also agree that some of the scenes were superfluous as anything other than plot devices.

She got the truck at the farm; it was left there. This scene was removed from the movie because they thought it gave away the twist too much.
Even if they hadn't have shot that, IT WAS A FLASHBACK IN A CRAZY PERSON'S MIND. The truck might not have ever existed. She could have simply imagined that, like she imagined so much else.
Gaaaah!!!! You don't get it! The ending is placed because it is a rip off of dean konntz's book Intensity!!!! Go watch the movie based on the book or read the book for the real ending.
Just letting you know I registered here JUST to answer your question.
IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO MAKE SENSE.
Why would a girl kill her friends entire family, including her 5 or 6 year old little brother just because she loves her and wants to be with her forever?
I'll tell you why.
IT'S A MOVIE.
Please get over the whole "Oh no, it doesn't make sense, my life is OVER if I don't know why this happened! Woe is me!"
Just imagine that the bad guy in the movie is a part of Marie that takes over for the majority of the time, and the scenes with both Marie and the bad guy in them are her two personalities fighting it out to win over her body. Marie is fighting to stay sane, and the bad guy is fighting to capture and keep Alex.
How hard is it to figure out? A monkey could do it.
"Marie is fighting to stay sane, and the bad guy is fighting to capture and keep Alex."
No. You'd see her do so then. But she just keeps walking forward with the chainsaw. Everytime she's Marie she'd have to react, go "NO, I don't...!" or something, untill the man takes over again. To me, it's just some cinematic effect to approve the fact that the fat killer never existed outside of Marie's mind. Upon closer examination, it doesn't make sense. It can't be Marie's "lied version" because honestly, what would she be telling the cops? So it must be the viewer's "version" (which is reality), which could mean that the director wasn't uncompromising enough in the story department.
I think there's no other bloody psycho thriller like this one that people crunch meaning and multi-layered super intelligent interpretations into. (Not directly adressing you, KeeblerMeg, as you make a similiar point)
Why are people defending this movie?! This argument that it's not meant to make sense because she's crazy yadda yadda. Bull5h1t argument.
The twist is cheating pure and simple. A twist should be unexpected but make you realise that what you've just seen is not what you thought you've just seen. What a twist SHOULD NOT do is make you furious at being lied to.
The car chase makes no sense. The head masturbation at the beginning makes no sense. Not to mention the ending where the victim runs up to the car and screams at the driver - at the beginning it wasn't even her, it was the killer!
Ther'es no "cheating" in the hallucinations of a psychopath! You've got a real chip on your shoulder about this movie. She imagined a killer, but she can't imagine a car chase? Is that a rule you just made up?
She didn't imagine the car chase. she was telling her story to the police and made that up.
Up until the gas station camera scene is her distorted version of the events after the gas station camera scene- actual events playing out. even the final chase was real- marie alternating between herself and killer was to show her inner struggle, but the chase was happening.
Obviously, she explained the family being killed by the "random killer" in the same manner she actually killed them, as with the gas station attendant, but the chase and the bj by severed head, she took liberties to expound on the story.
I dunno why this is so difficult...this omg-the-hero/victim-is -really-the-villian-cuz-he's-got-a-split-personality-concept isn't exactly a radically new or bizarre idea....we've seen fight club, right? Maybe ya'll are too young for either versions of psycho?? How about the shining? I guess, if you can't spell retarded, mentioning dr. jeckle and mr hyde is just absurd....
So very quickly. Marie has an alter ego, The Killer. How do alter egos work? Usually, one personality is "asleep" and one personality is active. Sometimes, one personality is active, while another is "observing".
This is what usually happens with Marie and The Killer. When The Killer is active, Marie watches. She IMAGINES herself watching from a window, behind the closet doors, stealing a car and chasing, getting into a car accident. We viewers see all of this because the story is told from basically Marie's point of view. She doesn't fully realize she has an alter ego.
Meanwhile, the only "kind of hole" how did marie get the truck to the country house? I can assume that The Killer got the truck, brought it to the farm and went back to the car while Alex was in the car sleeping.
its afternoon when marie offers to drive. Its dusk when the mother is doing laundry and the son expects they should be there. the mother says they should get there when he'd "done with his bath". The Killer is already there with the truck. Of course, its the middle of the night when they finally arrive. So there is really plenty of time for The Killer to pick of the truck from wherever, drop it off in the fields and hitch back to the car where Alex was sleeping. Marie wakes up alex and asks about the location of the farmhouse. All this, "where? Where do I turn? So easy to get lost!" could be partly because she sincerely believes she got lost since as marie, she has no memory of getting the truck, etc...
This is plausible because we wouldn't see or know what Marie doesn't know. It makes sense that The Killer would have staked out the house, etc... while this may not be "common knowlege" to the general public, but horror/slasher film audiences usually know that killers tend to be good planners.
Wow- its just a movie everyone...either you liked it or you didnt... I saw it and it was an ok movie...It had good parts..it had bad parts...Lets put it this way its not oscar-worthy or anything.
But there will never be a compromise-
For the people who did not "get it" and did not like- there will never be an enlighting explanation by anyone on a message board, just a bunch of BS posts explaning why you are "stupid".
For the people who "got it" and adore this movie- thats great...but realize opinions are like a*sholes everyone has them and the IMDB is what this is for to ask questions and discuss..if u are tired of answering "stupid questions" THEN DONT CLICK ON THE THREAD!-
To everyone... Dont get super emmotional or angry about a stupid movie...
I understand! It was a poorly written film with many plot holes and loose ends. But it was still entertaining. Just don't try to think about it to much cus it is not gonna help you at all
blah blah blah. You aren't bringing anything new to this discussion. Everything you said has already been said about 50 times before. You say it's a "weak" story-line. I say it isn't. What makes you right and me wrong?
LOL it's not a matter of right or wrong but hey for the sake of arguing, I say you're wrong because you haven't posted any plausible fill-in to this film's gapping plot holes.
The reasons why people are dissatisfied with the movie are due to ALL of the following things:
- the audience's decreasing ability to follow the story of a movie (thus, directors have been forced to create movies where the audience is spoon-fed the entire time...)
- the audience's declining attention span (leading directors to put in pointless action sequences and sex scenes, including both masturbation scenes in this movie which had NO relevance with the rest of the movie)
- the director's inability to wrap up the movie to a point where all loose ends are tied up and everything has a logical explanation
- the director's desperation to include a "twist ending" that could have been surprising and memorable (but instead it DOES come off as a carbon copy of Fight Club and even Psycho!)
- the necessity for posters (such as CaliManDan35) to fill in the glaring plot holes of movie with explanations that they came up with themselves
and lastly,
- listening to posters on this board attributing the other plot holes as, "Because she's psychotic." Satisfying explanation? NO. Lazy posters? Yes.
Facepalm. Aww nah duh the director didn't wrap of the movie right, HE STOLE THE STORY!!!! Go read the book he stole it from for the real ending!!!!!!!!
Create a movie called High Tension, and people rave about how it has... HIGH TENSION. How... Appropriate. Lol. I feel ashamed for joining this thread. That CaliDanMan makes this website look pathetic.
Can't understand the hype Was looking forward to seeing this because of all the rave reviews it got. What i got was a rip off rehashed version of the excellent dean koontz INTENSITY. This book was written in 1995,there's even been an okay film adaptation. It's such a blatant rip off ,i was convincinced i was watching a remake until the last twenty minutes, where they changed it enough so as not to get sued.
