Whilst watching this movie, did any of you have trouble understanding what was going on, because of the continuous present to past, past to present theme that was happening?
I understand that it was a great movie, and that it gained a lot of fans. However I would have enjoyed it more if I knew what was happening, at least most of the time.
Trouble? No, yet I was beyond entertained & enthralled during initial, theatrical, viewing while realizing I wasn't fully wrapped my brain around it all. It did take a couple home re-watches to feel fully immersed & understanding- most of all Joel & Clem's final moments of the film where we learn they weren't such a perfect movie couple so much as they were just perfect for one another.

But they aren't perfect for each other, that's the whole point. Their love - although strong in the beginning - is ultimately doomed and they will always break up no matter how many brainwashes they go through.

The ending reveals that Clementine will always eventually think that Joel is boring and Joel will always conclude that Clem is impulsive and uneducated, but Joel says that it's "Okay" and Clem obviously agrees as they walk off together arm-in-arm. Love is not being in denial about the flaws of the person you're with and it's "okay."

Both were flighty enough that it could go either way.
At least they learned a bunch about one another, and Joel's tape told her how he thought about her, something she kept bugging him to say. So if they stay or break up, it'll be an enlightened choice, not based on "if only... " as they'd left it before.
For me, the words to the song about her namesake and the Alexander Pope poem Mary quotes ("Eloisa to Abelard") indicate the relationship is doomed.

Not really. While Joel is having the procedure done there is a close-up of the doctor putting a dot on Joel's head with a marker. This looked a little suspicious to me, so I kept that in the back of my mind. Throughout the film, anytime there is a dot on Joel's head, it clear that it is taking place after the procedure.
shareI thought the film was equally brilliant and annoying as hell. So much so that I had to fast forward alot because I was getting vertigo.
I wish they just told the story without so much antics and disruption. They had a great cast and they were great but it failed to keep me because of the migraine that I got as a result.
Nah i had no trouble following the first time i saw it.

That's the idea, re-watch value. I think they mean for us to understand the emotion of the film before the timeline.
