He was entertaining as always but he just comes across as super self aware that he's Jack Nicholson in this movie instead of playing a character. The long drawn out speech cadence and self indulgence was distracting.

shareI tend to agree - although I wouldn't say bad - I'd say he was just going thru the motions. For me, the last bit of greatness out of Jack Nicholson was "About Schmidt".
shareyep, "... going thru the motions". That's also what I think of his performance. It was it's moments but in this film you could replace Nicholson and get just as good a film.

shareno i think the opposite actually. This made me want to visit more of his catalog. Makes me see a lot more of him than any other movie I've seen. He really has some plebeian emotions here.
