How can people POSSIBLY think that this movie is worse than part 3?

I'm sorry but Hellraiser 3 was terrible, and I keep seeing people saying this decent sequel is worse than it. Hellraiser 3 had no plot, the cenobites were stupid and badly concieved. The dialogue and acting were EXCEEDINGLY sub-par.

Maybe Deader doesnt fit well into the series, but it's an entertaining movie, and whether you like it or not it IS hellraiser. Less Pinhead means we value his scenes more. They serve as punctuation rather than filler.

MY Hellraiser list of good to bad is the following:

Hellbound: Hellraiser II
Hellraiser
Hellraiser: Inferno
Hellraiser: Bloodlines
Hellraiser: Hellseeker
Hellraiser: Deader
Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth

Hey dude, although I am a pretty big fan of Hellraiser III (even though I'll whole heartedly admit that it's not the masterpiece that I and II are) I dig Deader as well.

I think the film is directed with a lot of style and gusto and there are some genuine chills. The score, while totally opposite Christopher Young is quite effective. Also, the acting is pretty darn good.

The main problems I had with it are that some scenes just seem to drag and go on for far too long and that overall it's really quite a bit different from the original four films. Not that there is anything wrong with being unique and original, but I'm ready to see something different from the 'personal hell' aspect of things that we've seen in the past three movies. It's been fun, but I'm ready to see newer things in the Hellraiser universe.

But aside from my probs I do think that Deader is the best of the DTV sequels so far and am glad to have it in my collection.

But... Deader isn't all about the Personal Hell of Inferno and Hellseeker. Admitedly, I have so far only watched it once and I think I missed some stuff but It was about the Deader Cult and the LaMerchant lineage a little bit (Wasn't the leader of the cult a LaMerchant?) and stuff.

In my opinion it's the worst of the DTV sequels but it's not terrible. I really like the direction they've been taking Hellraiser in. And if they want to keep the same feeling for all four of the DTV sequels that's fine. I figure if they change focus every four movies that'll make the series continuously fresh, while allowing us to explore an aspect of hell.

The first four films were really good at showing what it means to be a cenobite and detailing the laws and rules of hell. The second four movies are about what it means to have opened the box, and how hell works on the individual.

If the next four movies change focus to, for example, the Leviathan, so we can learn it's history and what it really is... I'll be happy. It's good to keep things fresh, but not to the point where we dont get a chance to fully explore a concept.

True, but alot of the film is like that. We don't know if she's dreaming or literally in Hell or what. But no it isn't exactly like Inferno or Hellseeker either and that's why I ended up liking it probably a bit more.

Again, I don't hate Inferno or Hellseeker either though.

I am looking forward to Hellworld though, the concept is quite a bit different from anything else we've seen.

I just watched Deader again, and I understood it a lot better this time, and I like it a lot more.

Upon second viewing, it ties REALLY well into the rest of the series.

okay i just want to express my oppenion here. Hellraiser 3 was a great movie i am not saying it was better than deader don't get me wrong. all the hellraiser movies have their good qualties..people like hellraiser 3 because its more about pinhead and where he came from and just outlines him. that is why i love it pinhead is a masterful creation and never will they come up with a more terrifying monster.deader on the other hand had a good story good special effects and it was all around a good movie. .. one more thing i have to disagree wit hyour order u put the movies in .from the mouth of the TRUE hellraiser fan the order of films from best to worse goes.
But the first three hellraisers are from the creator of the series so no matter how bad they are they are the original visons.

Hellraiser
Hellraiser 2/hellbound
Hellraiser 3/hell on earth
Hellraiser 7/deader
Hellraiser 5/inferno
hellraiser 4/bloodline
Hellraiser 6/hellseaker - which this movie was crap no way around it..crap!

Clive Barker didn't have anything to do with Hell On Earth until after it was finished. They scripted it and filmed it, and then asked for his advice after the film was cut together. He was just as involved with Hellseeker as he was with Hellraiser III.

And ratings...

Hellbound
Hellraiser
Hellseeker
Inferno
Deader
Hell On Earth
Bloodline

And also Clive didn't particularily dig Hell On Earth, but he did LOVE Hellseeker.

The thing about Hell on Earth having more pinhead is that... that's not a GOOD thing. the thing that makes Pinhead so great is his mystery and his regality. overexposing him ruins him. Fortunately Hell On Earth didn't RUIN Pinhead because of this, but... it came awefully close to turning Pinhead into Jason Voorhees. Not to mention the fact that his "Handmade Cenobites" were crap. I mean... a Camera in his head? Throwing discs at people? Cenobites aren't supposed to be dead zombie super-soldiers, they're supposed to be explorers of the pleasure of pain and excess. That movie, in my opinion, was a bastardization of what I love about the Hellraiser series, made to sell tickets and buckets of popcorn.

And Twisted, I can understand not LIKING Bloodline (though I enjoyed it thoroughly)... but how can it possibly be worse than Hell On Earth?

At least Part 3 isn't dull which is more than I can say for this film.
