So everyone thinks he cheated his way into the tournament.

1. Even if he did, he only cheated to get passed the age restriction, not actually cheat to win the tournament. The age restriction which they all booed and obviously thought was unjust.

2. If he's stupid enough to risk his own life, what's the problem? Weren't they all cheering for the weasley twins when THEY were trying to cheat earlier? Would the entire school turn on the twins had their plan actually worked?

3. Now your school has doubled its chances to win. Wouldn't that be a good thing?

4. If they think Cedric should win because he's great, it wouldn't matter if Harry competed or not, Cedric would have won anyway right?

5. Draco and other Slytherin still hate Harry but if they think he cheated to get in, wouldn't that be a Slytherin thing to do? Draco was making fun of Harry for fainting in the face of Dementors, now he's making fun of him for being brave and risking his life? Make up your mind!

6. Now here's what really baffled me. I was willing to ignore everything else but this just takes the cake.
Everyone went back to normal after Harry completed the 1st round. Why? What changed for the kids to want to cheer for Harry now? If they hated him when he was about to do the challenge, why stop hating him after completing the challenge? They all hate him for cheating...unless he's a competent cheater?
Would the entire school still hate him if he were killed by the dragon?

1. One participant per school. Cedric was hufflepuff, which never gets glory. So we're talking superficial rule violation along with the school celeb looking to take a humble hero's glory.

3. See above.

4. See above again.

5. They're bullies. They'll find whatever reason to hate on Harry, even if inconsistent. (example, look at both sides of any moviechat political discussion)

6. No real explanation for this.

1. Would make sense for other schools and hufflepuff to hate him, not everyone else. Wouldn't his own house members be very happy about him possibly winning then?

Are all the kids so crazy about the rules and fair play that they hate a member of their own school to the point of wearing badges against him?

I know i know, they needed drama in the movie. I like the idea of the entire school hating harry but the way they did it felt very forced to me.

5. Yeah but it's so frustrating how nobody calls them out on it. Everyone turns on harry for some stupid rule bending one time but everyone is ok with Draco being a scumbag 24/7. Where are the "Draco stinks" badges? Sorry, got off on a tangent here, doesn't matter.

1. Hmm...that's a good point. It's been a while since I've read the books. Truth be told, I do think even his own school was fickle about him. I know Ron was pissed (in both the movie and the book I think) because he thought Harry was lying to him lol

5. Yeah, I have to admit, you're bringing up things I didn't consider here in this light. It is interesting that no one ever gangs up on Draco to that degree. I guess I never really bat an eye; again, Harry Potter is effectively a student celebrity. A lightning rod for criticism and disdain, esp if you don't really know him. You might just think he's a snob for all else.

Dracos father has money, power and influence, and is a little scary to boot. I always assumed that's why people didn't provoke him.

Duh! I can't believe I didn't think of that. I don't think the books ever actually addressed that reality either. But you're right; of course ppl would be scared of angering him.
