I actually thought this one was better than the older version.

I watched the older version..boring. This was better and funnier, even though some things didn't add up. I'm reading the book now and it's quite good. Anybody agree with me?

Not only did I consider this substandard to the original but in fact even the DIRECTOR of this movie seems to agree. Considering Bette and Nicole had issues with production too I could only imagine they would agree.

Calling the original boring is such a cop out for a lazy and uninterested person that can't be bothered to understand it. Sorry but if you consider this remake as good as you do I doubt your standards are THAT high. The fact you called it "older version" already suggests that you more have an issue with it's age.

The original had character, spice and realism. The remake had every movie cliche in the book. Although I will say it has a couple of scenes that aren't too bad. Calling it a comedy for it's very bad writing doesn't cut it either. I do like Frank, Nicole and Bette but I'm going to share their logical and dignified disown of it.

We seem to be forgetting one thing - The ending changed and new scenes were added because of Studio Execs and TEST AUDIENCES - Normal people like US!!!
Obviously the majority of people weren't happy with the original cut of the remake and enough people voiced their opinion and the Execs decided that it warranted changing...
Now I have seen both films and to be honest I like them both, but on totally different levels - The original is a great piece a cinema. Although it does not scare me like a horror these days would - I will admit that the ending left me very disturbed - It stayed in my mind for a while - All I could think about was how could someone do that to someone they loved and live with themselves - When you see the husband smiling and happy in the photo's at the end you're just left wanting to hurt the PR##K...
The only other film that I can think of at the moment that left me disturbed when it ended was Stephen Kings The Mist - WOW talk about a complete MIND F##K ending - If you haven't seen that movie yet then I suggest that you do.
As for the remake - I will admit that if I want to watch a film with actors that I like it in - If I want to laugh and be entertained and not have to think at all - Then I will put on the remake and I will enjoy watching it...
After all - there are worst things that I could be watching on a lazy Sunday evening!

No, not at all. The original was tense, suspenseful, you liked the characters and the movie made a statement about societies treatment of women. The remake was a series of gags.

I read the book way back when and it was very good and quite dark. I only vaguely remember the original movie.

This movie is more fun and I enjoyed it. I don't think the old one would quite hit home the same way as it did originally, it was a different political time.

the leading lady comes off as really chilly and self centred at the beginning of this movie, so how does that work with her being kind of the decent leading lady afterwards. i thought the men's club and all that was quite funny, i haven't seen the original, but figure this version must be the funnier since people are so touchy today about what you can say and express, while that just comes natural in the old movies.

you got a taste of the good life,
big city limousines and bright lights,
glamour and champagne,
at a shallow place,
youve drifted astray,
when the city lights have faded i'll treat you right,
if you ever decide to return to the country sight,
and give me a taste of the good life.
