One of My All Time favorite Films

This is film has a special place in my heart....

I first watched it when I was 17, It was about 1AM in the morning, I was drunk, very depressed and Had my heartbroken for the first time by my first "Love"....

I had my dad buy a me beer like 6 nights in a row, and of course at the time, I was young so the only way he would do it is if I stayed home, gave him my keys so I couldnt drive or go anywhere and I wasnt allowed to have anyone over....So I basically went into a week long alcohol fueled COMA of "First Love Desperation"

I came across this, Late one, about 5 mins into the film, I never heard of it or knew about it....

I ended up watching the entire movie, for the 2 hours in was on I completely forgot about the Hell I was going through and simply enjoyed this excellent movie...

What HOOKED me was Robert Duvall's role of (Hub)....It was almost like They wrote this character based on My Grandfather....I swear to god, It was almost like I was watching My own grandfather on screen....I was very close with my grandfather and I could not believe how much the character in this film reminded me him...

anyways, for Me this is probably The best "Feel Good" Movie I've ever watched....

I watch it at least once a year, It always brings me back to that Night, when I stumbled across it as A Drunk,Depressed Teen, drinking away his first broken heart....and this film provided me A wonder Moment during a time of PURE HELL for me...

This movie would probably be in my top 10 favorite films of all time if I could make a List(unfortunately that List Is impossible for me to make)

do you enjoy this film and why?

I agree wholeheartedly. It is a wonderful film, full of a lot of heart and life lessons.

I enjoy it too. It's a well crafted amiable watch with Caine and Duvall laying a rock solid foundation and everything else fitting in perfectly.
IMDb:

Since Haley Joel Osment went through puberty during filming, this movie was shot in sequence. As the movie progresses, his voice can be heard getting deeper, especially at the end.

I noticed his voice deepening but assumed it was supposed to mark his characters progression - it's a good job they shot in sequence.

I liked it because it was a harmless, old fashioned boyhood adventure story. It emphasized positive male qualities like courage, honor, toughness, faithfulness to the woman you love but also independence. There were some clunker scenes and Osment’s acting was a little uneven and at times exaggerated. Caine didn’t have a whole lot to do (he was almost a narrator) but Duval was fantastic. All things considered, I give it a B-
