Absolutely Brilliant

I can't believe that so many people thought that this movie was so terrible. After watching it the first time i was in awe. First and foremost i think it was possibly Walken's best bit of acting ever, and yes i realise the magnitude of that statement but the Jay Man was a perfect. Second, if you didn't get the comedy of this movie it just means that you are a little stupid and are not capable of understanding Ben Stiller, let alone Jack Black. Stiller has always been ahead of his time (Case in point, the Ben Stiller show from 1991) and this was another step forward teaming with Black. They are both comedic geniuses, tho admittedly you need to be on their level.
Aside from that, this movie was a cultural commentary that delved deeply into the inner workings of this society. There are three types of people, the haves (Black), the have-nots(Stiller) and the have-no-needs: the artists, philosophers; represented beautifully by Walken.
To an extent this is like Cable Guy in that people go in with expectations of Carry tearing it up with laugh after laugh and then they are shocked or repelled when they see that it's so dark and makes you think, which ofcourse is not why most people watch comedy. But if you give it a chance, prepare yourself to think, it's an excellent movie. I'd go so far as to say Ben Stiller's 5 min monolouge at the end is near oscar material. (again knowing the scrutiny i'm setting myself up for)
So say what you will, but if you're just going to bash all that i've said here, it likely means you were just another one of those fools who has not the capacity to understand this movie.

I completely agree! This movie is nothing short of brilliant. You're right, anyone who watched this movie with expectations of "a comic masterpiece" (or, the traditional comic masterpiece rather) would have been disappointed. It was perfect for my tastes, a lot of underlying comedy. Just think about the storyline, and then think about how much it cost to make, amazing. You can tell they did this movie with the intention to *beep* s*** up. I really think Stiller and Black are genius and often misunderstood.

this movie sucked in every possable way. i get ben stiller's type of comedy. And this movie was not his. He must have been forced to do this load of crap.
futhermore, this is a movie about a guy who makes a product that make dog crap disapper, even steven hawkins wouldn't laugh at that.

I liked this movie too. I am really glad I didnt look it up online before I decided to rent it cuz if I had there is no way I would have bothered renting it cuz I would have thought that it was not funny. I laughed a lot. I love Jack Black, Ben Stiller and of course C. Walken. They were all vintage themselves in this film so why did everyone hate it? I dont get it. People act like this movie is the worst movie of all time. I mean how is it worse than any other Jack Black movie? Enlighten me please.
