I haven't actually seen it, but i've been told that "Grave of the Fireflies" is one of the saddest movies ever made.

These two got me. They both have father/son relationship themes....
Field of Dreams
310 to Yuma

Pursit of happyness
Boy in the striped Pijmas
Green Mile
artificial intelligence
the patriot
the family man

Agree with The Patriot. There were a couple scenes that get me a little choked, one of which is the youngest daughter running after her father, played by Mel Gibson, begging him not to go. I saw the movie 15 years ago and I don't think that scene affected me as much as it does now, now that I'm a father myself.

The Best Years of Our Lives....Harold Russell's entire performance. Despite his horrific injuries, he felt that he was a fortunate man.

Saving Private Ryan....Ryan as an old man..."tell me I'm a good man".

Band of Brothers....."Grandpa, were you a hero in the war? No, but I served in the company of heroes".

Yes, all of them war films (or the aftermath of war). The common thread for me is all involve ordinary men in extraordinary circumstances who do the job they are trained for. And none of them felt that they were special, extraordinary or heroes. Just citizen soldiers.
