who completely sympathized with alex?

I mean, she saw/knew him first (in a way). I know it's a childish logic, but to the ladies of this forum, don't you think Alex had every reason and rights to do what she had to do? It happened to me before. And I did the exact same thing (except I didn't steal my friend's name and apartment and her life). But yeah.

It's ridiculous how everyone in this post lives inside a pink bubble acting like "oh, she should have done the right thing and stay away" and then what, go to a corner and cry her heart out? what makes you think she didn't do the 'right' thing before and nothing ever happened? just emptiness, meaningless and a horrible feeling of sadness, i've been there before, I'm not saying that what she did was right but in the real world this does happen. I definitely empathize and relate with Alex, she went to extremes and that wasn't ok but in the end she was never a bad person she just couldn't relate to people properly (she was flawed), maybe she got tired of 'doing the right thing' and watching her chance of happiness go away, she was blinded by what she thought was love and you could see through the movie that she was suffering by the things she had to do to get a chance with that loser, anyway she acted selfishly.

I'm not saying people have to sympathize with Alex, but I do think people should try to empathize and understand the character, she wasn't black neither white, she was a complex character! actually she was the only character in the movie that I would consider as 'real'. Rose Byrne did a marvelous job portraying Alex, she was perfect.

So in conclusion, what happened with Alex in the film is something that would likely happen to a lot of people in the real world, in the end she reacted and redeemed herself but got nothing, she was left to live with the guilt for the horrible things she did; as for the main couple (Matt and Lisa), I just couldn't empathize or relate with them but I understand they were also flawed and troubled, Matt was a loser, a cheater and a hypocrite, Lisa was slutty and (I don't know it for sure) liked to get involved with married man so she was probably worst than Alex. Maybe neither of these three main characters were worthy of sympathy but empathy and pity. We just see like one dimention from Luke and Rebecca and for what we get from them they might be the only characters worthy of sympathy.

P.D. I hated the fact that Matt and Lisa got a happy ending, they were depicted as not so good people, maybe they were worse than Alex but this does commonly happen in real life too, this film actually hit us with reality all over.

What Alex did was wrong, but I did actually kind like her character? Maybe it's because I didn't feel strongly one way or the other about the Lisa character, and Alex was written to not just be the villain, but instead actually rather complex and layered. She also did seem truly sorry, and I think think everything she did just kept snowballing until where it ended up. The scene where her, Matt, and Luke were at the table was just kinda sad.

I can sympathize with how she FELT, but not with how she acted.

Also, in real life, she never would have admitted she was wrong in that call to Lisa. Her type would have kept acting childish.
