I read the book before seeing the film. Big mistake. The film misses out all of the subplots and the prison scenes completely omits one character, renames everyone and rewrites the ending. THAT is why city of god is not great as an adaptation...Just like the Godfather is not great to anyone that has read the book. its just boring. As a piece of cinema though it is well pitched and poignant, and definitely one of the better films I have seen...and the additions of characters - the runts for example - aren't bad things. I mean they move the film forward and a true adaptation would probably be four hours long.

For troubles with shooting dates, dame judi had to drop the Ze Pequeno rol. And Vin Diesel promised lot of cup of tea on the chronicles of riddle set.
