Which story/ character do you like most ?

The kid adventure through the air plane really suprised me , but I like the sideline guys Mark ( the marriage couple friends most). I would see myself doing the exact same thing in the future, as I have done similar toward my high school crush. But who knows, im just a 21 years old college graduate.

How about everyone :)

Story - I'd say Jamie & Aurelia. Very subtle and heart warming story. The end did slightly over-the-top on it, but I'd still say it was pretty good.

Character(s) - I'd have to instantly pick 2; Colin Frissell & Billy Mack. Both were the comedic relief this movie required. I lost count of how many times I have rewatched Colin's trip to America part; it's absolutely hilarious.

Bill Nighy nailed his role and the intro with his 'Christmas is all around me' song sets the movie up splendidly.

Love this movie & I mostly end up doing a re-watch every Christmas.

Colin going to Wisconsin, and Billy Mack's Christmas Is All Around.

Oh, Billy Mack and his manager! Funniest part of the movie, and finally, the most profound.

Second place being the Prime Minister falling for the maid. Also funny and true, because love isn't always convenient.

#1. I dislike this movie intensely. It's unfocused treacle. Fun for some, but not for me.
Only saw it once on TV (porn stars?), but I love Emma Thompson in everything I can remember. I also like Alan Rickman a lot, but the way he breaks her heart over some secretary or whatever it was, it was so sad and he was so foolish. I don't remember how they resolved it, but that he would get that taken up by a pretty, much younger colleague when he has such a comely and steadfast wife, you just want to throw a bucket of ice on him, slap him in the face, and give him a good public talking to (but not while Emma's around). Still, love Emma and Rick.

Hugh Grant as the dancing PM! 🤣 Overall I agree with @snepts, the vignettes are all over the place and some storylines are annoying, but the cast is stellar. They all give it their best and there are some great moments. Bill Nighy as the aging rock star is all good. Colin Firth by a lake, always good. The Walking Dead guy with Bob Dylan posters is sweet. Laura Linney’s cell phone is the most annoying character after the dork who goes to America and the self-absorbed little kid. The body double story was most cringeworthy. I will never get the point of the Natalie fat jokes.

How they resolved the Emma/Alan storyline - the wife thinks she’s getting the ugly heart necklace, but instead she opens the gift and gets a CD (did someone say cheap?). Anyway she puts 2 and 2 together, and confronts him after the school play. He doesn’t deny it. Flash forward to the Heathrow airport finale and the wife and kids greet him, but it’s all very frosty. I guess that meant they stayed together for the kids or are working through their issues.

I don't even think they TALKED about their issues...
Just staying together... quiet resolve.... the English way...

LOVED this film... yeh, the "Body Double" parts were dull, but not a waste, and some people may even like them the best...

I liked the Aurelia story. It was the cutest and cheesiest, but I gotta admit, I always get choked up when he's in the cafe, declaring his love for her. I think it hits the spot, but then I'm a shite wannabe writer too, so maybe that's why I like them...

Hugh Grant was great... they all were... even Laura Linny.... wanted to beat her and her brother up.... he's to old to be having that hold on her, but whatever.... some strange shit there....

And Colin was the perfect buffer in between, but they could have left denise richards out... she was horrendous and looked like she was pretending to be an american "hot girl"...

Just my humble opinion....

GREAT CHRISTMAS MOVIE!

Same with Denise's sidekick, that dumb chick with the long face from Scary Movie. Do guys actually find her attractive??

reply

Colin Firth and the Portuguese chick (or whatever nationality she was). I could watch a whole movie just about that story.

me too. love it!!!

The scene where he sings in the car and then tells himself to shut up always makes me laugh.

reply

That is one of my favorite scenes in the movie! Lol

Joining the chorus praising Bill Nighy! He fucking stole the film with very little screen time, and even stole scenes from other characters, while appearing on random TV screens in the background!

Hugh Grant's scenes are probably my second favorite, the PM's scenes had a lovely absurdity.
