Keira and the Cards
is this now one of the most famous scenes in movie history? it feels like it.

shareI love it, it's one of my favourite scenes in the film. It was right that nothing happened because she was married to his best friend but I did feel sad for him in the end because they would have made an adorable couple. I'd love a guy to declare his love for me like that.
shareMy favourite scene too but I've always wondered what would've happened if Peter was the one who answered the door instead of Juliet. That would've been awkward.
sharei have often wondered about that too. how would he explain the casette recorder and the cards? they're a bit difficult to miss. I also think the recording is of too high a quality, singing like that would make you want to go to the door and listen.
shareYou're right, but I believe peter turned
up the volume on his tv so he probably didn't hear a thing.
That crossed my mind too. I assumed he knows his friend never answers the door himself. The silly thing is I made this rationalisation as I watched the movie.
shareHow could Peter NOT tell that his best friend was in love with his girlfriend/wife? I mean it seems like a sixth sense or gut instinct of some sort would have kicked in. As Mark told Juliet, he avoided her out of "self preservation." He knew if he got too chummy with her his feelings would grow stronger, and he was afraid he might let his guard down and cross a line.
share* SPOILERS *
At the end of this scene, the girl runs out of the house, kisses the guy, gives him a longing look and goes back; he turns around, says "Enough... Enough now" and leaves.
Is he saying "that kiss is enough for me to go on living, waiting for her to be free; I have a chance, even if I have to wait a long time"?
Or is he saying "enough of this behaviour, I have to stop, it is too late and I lost any chances I may have had".
I understood it as - that's enough, time to move on. But at the end he 'tags along' with Keira Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor to greet Colin Firth and Lúcia Moniz at the airport. So who knows?
shareI asked because I used to believe he was saying "this is enough, I can survive on this while I wait for her", but some time ago I noticed the second "enough now", and ever since then I believe he was saying "OK, I better stop this hopeless dream". But as you said, who knows.
shareI was convinced he turned up at the airport at the end with another girl but a clip on YouTube tells me I'm wrong - he's still tagging along. So I now think there are actually two sad endings - his and Emma Thompson.
