Which story lines would you cut?

I would cut the one with Martin Freeman and Joanna Page, and the one with the guy who goes to the US to get laid.

Which ones would you cut out?

reply

Evidently the networks agree with you. I have yet to see a version of this on TV that has Martin Freeman in it. Even at 3hr. 15 minutes!

reply

The guy going to America.

reply

yes, that one is pretty silly.

reply

1. British guy going to America
2. Keira Knightley storylines

Both their story was pointless.

reply

I wouldn't cut any of them, even the ones I personally don't care for (Sam and Joanna).

Because they are all interrelated, and part of what I love about the film is the way it portrays the connections between so many people (ex.: Karen is married to Harry who is infatuated with Mia who lives next door to Natalie who is in love with David who is Karen's brother).

Agree with so many others about the Colin character. I felt like this is the one strand in the film that Richard Curtis couldn't manage any conviction for.

reply

The Hugh Grant storyline. Ugh... Nauseating. Haha

I loved all the stories and they all fit together so well. Colin going to America added some fun humor that was supposed to be over the top - all those gorgeous women and they invite him back to their place with one bed where they sleep naked. LOL And John/Judy story was sweet. My least favorite was the kid story - ugh, and didn't even like Liam Neeson in this role - so annoying and making jokes about the dead wife was tasteless. But the kid story gave us that wonderful concert, which brought several stories together. Loved the movie overall - Prime Minister and Natalie story and Jamie/Aurelia stories were my faves - and of course the overall story of the song and Bill Nighey - hilarious.

reply

Colin Firth's. As much as I love him it was a tad boring and there was just no chemistry there.

reply

Absolutely none - the film is perfect as it is.

Laura Linney's character was my favourite (kinda heartbreaking too) - the most interesting one there.

reply

i like the Colin Firth one.

reply

Was going to say those two as well. They just don't really seem to build or go anywhere of importance. It seems like they were plots thrown in just to have the final joke in each of the one in US hooking up with all the girls, and the porn stars getting asked how they met.

reply

I would go with the Laura Linney one. I always found it awkward and never understood their attraction to each other. I personally think he was a weird looking guy. I felt bad for her and her brothers situation but I could have done without that whole story line.
