Which story lines would you cut?
I would cut the one with Martin Freeman and Joanna Page, and the one with the guy who goes to the US to get laid.

Which ones would you cut out?
The guy going to the US to get laid was my least favourite part and probably the most unrealistic part. I understand that it was trying to add comedic value to the movie but it felt out of place with all the more serious parts.
I could have also done without the whole "I learned a new language for you" cliche. The whole thing was boring.
I actually liked the Martin Freeman and Joanna Page parts. I feel like they were tacked on, though. I wanted to see more of it.
I'm not sure which story I would cut...probably the guy going to America. He finds sex, not love.
Several have mentioned cutting Laura Linney's story line, because it is the only one that doesn't end up with her in love. I beg to differ. This movie is about all types of love, as we see in they story of the aging rock star and his manager. They are adult males who share a platonic, friendly love. Linney does not land the romantic love that she was hoping for but she has her brother. Although she may feel duty-bound to take care of him, it is clear that she loves him. Not all romances end up with a happy ending. She had to make a hard choice and ended up choosing her family.
Colin in America was bizarre but the idiotic Juliet/Mark thing would be the one I would cut out if I could. Keira Knightly is even hammier than usual. There's something about her that makes me want to punch her in the face and I'm not a violent girl.

Finally! I was hoping someone would mention the kid. I realize it was an imporant storyline, but man he was annoying and cheesy. And talk about unrealistic. Annoying
shareI couldn't agree more. I HATED this sl and I fast forward every scene with involving the kid. It was cloying and nauseating.
I loved John and Judy's sl. It was very sweet. I would rather they dumped the stupid kid sl and kept some of the deleted material.
Whatchoo Lookin' At??
idk about you, but I wasn't a fan of Mark & Juliets little story. The rest was interesting by my standards. : ) I actually kind of liked Mia & Johns story (sorry if I'm getting the names wrong), and Colins story was kinda funny as well.
shareMia was the tart who seduced her boss. Do you mean John and Judy, the movie stand-ins?
"great minds think differently"
Yep, sorry I got the names wrong Dx Thanks for correcting me.
shareYes, just watched this, and never 'missed' the Martin Freeman bit, not knowing it was in movie until reading board. The 'Colin' story line was ridiculous, and the 'Daniel/Sam' storyline was annoying; "I've just lost my wife, you've just lost your mom, let's grieve together," I get, but, "Hey step-dad, forget my dead mom, I'm in love and that's more important!" That didn't sit well with me, nor Daniel's comments about "having sex all over the house, including your room".
BOHICA America!

So, Mia was an innocent victim, was she?
shareNot a victim, no, but she also isn't the one who got married and made promises to be faithful.
shareI've read somewhere that something got cut from the script that explained why Mia was throwing herself at his head like that. It's not like a normal office friendship that drifts into an affair, she is being deliberately seductive, splaying her legs and pouting at him, almost like a caricature of a vamp. What was she after - promotion, a seat on the board, a takeover bid? Or maybe to get him sacked, for some reason? Anyone know?
shareI'd go for broke and cut the Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson storyline. It would ruin the movie, and Rowan Atkinson's bit at the jewelry counter was perfection. But it's awful just to watch her pain, after she opens the CD and understands the heart necklace went to a trollop.
The Keira Knightley storyline was uncomfortable.
I personally loved the Jack and Judy storyline. It was funny, surprising, sweet.
~
I'd love a bundt cake if you have one
Although Colin, God of Sex, was probably the funniest; it wasn't done all that well. They should have showed a better back-story on him than just him making a fool of himself in-front of the caterer. Maybe have an annoying British Gf dumping him.
Jesus would support Universal Health Care
Martin Freeman by far. Not knocking the actors nor the story, it just felt unecessary and purely filler
"Be the change you want to see in the world"
None. I love every minute of it.
Ok, Gun to my head? Then the goofball guy going to America...but I think he adds some comedy. I love the scene where he insults the chefs food at the wedding. Classic.
I wholeheartedly agree! This is a rare mix of stories that mesh well (a formula that has yet to be duplicated) and are very entertaining. The best part is they hold true to the beginning message. Love is all around. Maybe not in the form you would choose but it is there. Because of this is no unhappy ending and I love that.
I voted for Frenchie and Dia like a sex donkey on Xanax.
Definitely would cut the creepy friend/stalker/voyeur friend who was obsessed with Keira. The girl you like is married. To your best friend. Get over it. Don't make a fool of yourself by showing up on her doorstep.
shareAgreed, if we had follow up scenes they would probably be her talking to a friend about how uncomfortable she is now whenever Peter's friend Mark is around and how he came by the house and she has had thoughts about him coming over when Peter isn't there like some stalker etc.
When she first opened the door she might have been "oh, it's some secret/surprise for my husband" but once he started with the rest of the cards that would have changed to the creeper/stalker vibe.

You're Planning to Fail.
he was not a stalker or a voyeur. he made a video of her at her wedding, she was fully clothed at the time. And the girl would never have known if she hadn't gone poking around in his things and then insisted on putting the video on. he will get over it, as he makes clear. he just wanted to see her for a moment, there's no harm in that that i can see. She already, knew he was potty about her.
shareShe did kiss him though...
