best game of all time
i have played hundreds of games and this one is still my standout favourite. i even went through all the effort to get 100% and have all of VCPR on my ipod, my god this game is near flawless

shareYou got to be kidding me ! Scarface: The World Is Yours,GTA San Andreas,GTA Vice City Stories,Liberty City Stories and GTAIV are way cooler games than VC.VC is meant for puss*es who are easily offended, one of the reasons I don't like GTA Vice City that much is because the dialogue sucks ass.For example, instead of just saying 'Fu*k you !',it is replaced by 'Screw you !'.What the fu*k is up with that ? If you don't like cuss words, then GTA is not for you,and video games in general. And c'mon,VCPR in Vice City Stories is way better than Vice City's VCPR.VICE cITY'S vcpr SUCKS,kCHAT IS EVEN WORSE.

i dont know about you but i dont play games just because they say *beep* a lot. i really actually dont give a flying *beep* about the bad language. i love all the gta's but vc was the best by far, and im pretty sure vc was the game that caused the most offence because of the whole haitain and cuban thing. Also i think you would be one of the only people in the world who thinks liberty city stories is better than vice city.
shareI'm much more impressed with GTA:SA. It's just my preference because of its missions and other modifications within the game itself...Even though I completed all the missions 100% and I still keep playing the game. though I respect your choice of game. Another great game for me is Frozen throne though this is a different topic already....=)
To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.
i love san andreas cuz even when you finish there is always more to do and there is still ways to do fun stuff like the fighter jet. But in terms of the amount of fun i had vc is a clear leader

Actually, the F bomb isn't dropped at all during this game.
Who can take you higher than a twin peak mountain blue?
Personally the thing that tips the scales between VC and SA is that I preferred the 80s setting in VC more.
sharewhat the hell are you talking about ,vice city to me is way better than liberty city stories it has a better story and the dialogue is well better because it includes stars such as gary busey, dennis hopper, danny trejo and other famous stars who can act way better than these random people in the other gta games. i know the graphics may not be as good as the other gta's but this is because it came out earlier and is not as progressed as san andreas or vice city stories. one of the main things i like about vice city is it is set in the 1980s and has all the classic soundracks from stars including elton john, micheal jackson and other famous stars. even though the designers of this game didnt have all of the resources of the last three they sure as hell tried their best to show the full potentiel. the designers of the last 3 had good chances of making better looking games it still seems to me that they didnt try as hard.
shareIts true cursing rots the brain since you actually think that GTA VCS and GTA LCT is better then GTA VC. You must be insane.
I have no problem with a cursing game but it doesnt make it a better game just because somebody says screw you instead of *beep* you. But you will learn that when you hit pubberty.
San Andreas will forever be the best for me. Rockstar adding the eating and working out made it more realistic to me. Okay, so you can't go to the gym in real life and after just a few visits be totally ripped, but I still liked that they added those real life aspects to the game.
I also didn't have any problem with the storylines. Maybe it's just because I LOVE the West Coast that I'm bias, but SA was the best for me.
Surprised most people said eating/exercising/other RPG-esque elements made Andreas a better game than Vice City. Honestly... who can eat 11 fast food meals without vomiting? And once you've maxed out your stamina and muscle stats you rarely have to hit up the gym again to get 'em back to max. Oh, and getting the "lung capacity" stat up to max for the Amphibious Assault mission took two hours and about two game days, completely superfluous and tedious.
Vice City kept it fun, without making it too unrealistic. Tommy Vercetti will always be the definitive Vice City protogonist to me... great dialogue and his "rise to power" plot is by far the most cinematic and enjoyable. The fact he's also voiced by Ray Liotta, who played a mean gangster in Goodfellas and is spot on the perfect choice, just makes things more entertaining and memorable.
Has anyone mentioned how awful the driving physics are in GTA IV yet? They removed all the fun physics that the GTA III era trilogy had. If I wanted a car to corner completely true to life, I'd play a simulator or drive an actual automobile. Damn, IMO Rockstar completely dropped the ball there, trying to be all dark and edgy with it.
I am not saying that Vice City is a bad game,it is a good game and it has a fair amount of action, but VC certainly isn't the best game ever. That's just my opinion.
Vice City's plot and storyline is boring and cheesy, and it is too short.
I love San Andreas' storyline because it has the wild west feel. The badlands and the desert, corrupt cops and best friends turning their back on you.
And I really don't give a sh*t,if the games that I mentioned have received bad reviews.I don't give a *beep* what other people think, what matters to me,is that I love these games.I am probably the only person in the world to rate 'True Crime Streets Of LA' 10 too :) I really did enjoy playing it.I am not one of these dickriders who follow the crowd and don't have their own taste or opinions.
i find it hard to choose, whether VC or SA is the greatest game of all time. I really just want to say the GTA3 Trilogy, as I loved the original 3D Liberty City masterpiece that pioneered this awesome genre too... I love the Goodfellas/Scarface vibe of VC, and the Gen X/Boyz In Tha Hood vibe of SA. SA you could fly jetpacks and ride BMXs, which was rad, but VC had Ray Liotta, easily the best GTA character ever! In the end, VC just barely wins, only because it has Gary Neuman's "Cars" on the soundtrack.
shareSan Andreas did some great things, but I have to say, I agree with the premise of the original post. I think VC is the best of the GTA's and maybe the best game ever made.
The targeting system was far superior in VC, as were the sound effects, imho.
I also just don't understand why people make such a big thing about being able to go order food and lift weights in SA. To me, that's just so lame. Sims like. I don't play video games to do things that I can do in real life. If I want to eat or lift weights, why do it in a video game? VC just has the best balance of fantasy, realism, fun. The game never gets old. I liked San Andreas but to be honest, never even finished it.
The other thing that annoyed me about San Andreas - and I never thought I would have said this - was that it was just too damn big. I spent WAY too much time just driving to get from location to location, mission to mission. It's like they should have just installed a "skip" button or allowed you to pick a point on the map that you wanted to go to instead of actually playing the game just to drive to different places. In short, too much yawn-factor in SA for me.
For me it is not the best game of all time. My favortite game ever is Grim Fandango.
But Vice City is surely the second best.
The system my be worse than San Andreas', but the story and themes are way better.
I really love this game.
I played GTA, GTA II, GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas. But only finished Vice City and San Andreas.
And even San Andreas being more fun, specially after you beat the game, Vice City is better. The best game for PlayStation 2, that's for sure.
It really has a nice script. The voice acting is amazing. The characters, the story...
I was always a big fan of the Gangster genre. Godfather, Scarface, Carlito's Way.
They do drop the F-bomb once in vice city lol. When tommy is bending Kent Pauls arm behind his back he blurts it out. However the subtitles do not indicate this... Fun fact!
Who the hell doesn't like Vice City. The game is just a perfect GTA game and should have been considered as such. GTA IV is just plain overhyped (do I smell HALO 3-ish?).
The physics were just fun not too easy, but sometimes even difficult like the race in the bank job mission. Plus the bank job mission itself was way more fun than stupid GTA IV's pathetic attempt at a slow moving and retarded dialogued bank robbing.
The best part sincerely was Ray Liotta's voiceing of Tommy Vercetti. Natural and noteworthy, the dialogue just seemed more sincere and gritty.
Come on people GTA: Vice City is certainly the greatest GTA game ever.
I think Vice City is by far the worst of the 3D GTA games. It's just basically GTA3 with a new setting, characters and missions. The only difference in the gameplay was the addition of bikes and helicopters. However, my biggest problem with it was the map, which was just far too small and feels more like a facade of a seaside resort town of about 10,000 people than a real living, breathing city. The story also felt shorter to me than GTA3.
It came out in late 2002, just one year after GTA3 which would be like releasing a sequel to GTA IV now. As a result, I think the game feels a little too much like it was made to cash in on the success of GTA3 as quickly as possible.
Don't get me wrong, it's a damn good game. However, it was a disappointment to me as the follow up to an all time classic like GTA3.
Aloep, you do raise an interesting point. VC is far and away my favorite
but I never played previous GTA games so VC was new to me.
All GTAs that followed have more content but to me they just aren't as engaging.
Yooou are like a big stupid dog, who can't stop eatiiiiing!
Agreed... I loved GTA:VC more than all the other ones.
I'm really hoping the next GTA game is in Vice City but bigger, with planes and better (and more famous) voice actors than GTA IV.
Ray Liotta's voice was perfect for Tommy Vercetti.
I'd say, out of the games in the series I've played, my favorites are as follows...
1) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (This game was just perfect.)
2) Grand Theft Auto IV (Fantastic, but after San Andreas, it feels like something is missing.)
3) Grand Theft Auto III (Great game, and paved the way for future installments.)
4) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (Good game.)
5) Libery City Stories (It was nice to return to Liberty City after however many years since part III, and the expierience was good overall.)

You're 100% right. It would be nice to have it A) redone through the most updated engine or B) have it recreated from the bottom up with new music, stories, etc. but the same city, the same protagonist, the same flavor.
shareGotta agree. I think its unique. Only the music stands out on its own but everything else blends into something truly epic. Fun and atmosphere by the bucket load and tons of replay value.
shareBrilliant game which, time permitted, I try to play at least twice a year (same with "Vice City Stories"). I view a lot of the television show "Miami Vice", so as entertainment goes, this game feels like home:-)
