IMBD closing the boards

Seems like the trolls have won. This really sucks, even boards I don't post on I still like reading the threads.

reply

Yeah, I'm bummed about it. Wish there was a way for them to more carefully vet the users so the trolls could be screened out a bit better.

reply

Yes this really sucks. I'm not a super active IMDb poster but I lurk these boards constantly. I'm sure there are a lot of users who don't seem active but still check the site frequently. I won't even have a use for this website without the forums anymore.

reply

So true. They're gonna lose a lot of traffic from the lurkers.

reply

while i post a fair amount, i also do lots of just reading. i really have no use for the website other than that. oh well, hopefully we can all find other places with interesting discussions because i really enjoy other people's thoughts.

reply

I logget on just to post.
I used to be a poster, now mostly a lurker.
Please imdb, please do not do this.
Let's unite!

yeah, to me IMDB -is- the discussions.. without it i see no reason to use it.

Has nothing to do with trolls but cost and upkeep. IMDb failed to monetize these boards and now its just costing them to maintain it. Trolls could have easily been banned as mods will sign up and work for free. its not about trolls trust me.

Yep...the trolls is just an excuse to shift blame off themselves.

Everyone sign this:

reply

I appreciate the effort but I don't believe it will do any good. The IMDB admins are fully aware of exactly how many "active users" they have on the message boards, and they went ahead with the decision to disable them anyway. So having active users sign a petition saying they don't want the boards disabled won't make a difference. We'd be telling the admins something they already know.

As others have said, this is about more than trolls. There's a cost factor, so unless we can somehow suggest a plausible solution to offset the cost of operating the boards (likely meaning enough people would have to be willing to pay a fee to keep the boards going), a petition will just be cast aside.

Why?? That's *beep* I've been coming on here for over 8 years. I love reading other fans. haters, and mores comments. It's been so fun,and memorable.

Imdb is usually the first place I go on the web after watching a good movie or my favorite show! None of my friends watch any of the shows in the Bachelor franchise so I guess I'll have to find a new place to discuss my guilty pleasure. I can't go on Facebook because I have to maintain a mature, professional persona IRL. Lol. Very disappointed. I've always remained respectful on Imdb and never had a comment deleted by the moderators. So, I can at least say I didn't contribute to this outcome.

Yeah, this kinda sucks. :( Although the scourge of humanity is on these boards, there are also many awesome people who are here "for the right reasons." I will definitely miss it!
