Not a very child friendly movie

This movie is suppose to be a kids movie but yet it did not really seem to be.

Parts such as when the cat chops his tale off and he says sunava and then it goes on commercial so you do not hear the bitch part. I immediatly turned off the movie because my little cousin who was 3 at the time and then 14 month old son were sitting thier watching it.

I decided to watch the movie after they bioth went to bed and see if it had any other bad parts in it and if not I was going to le tthem finish it up the next day but then when the cat jumps over the fence to get the dog he has a garden tool and throws it down and says "dirty hoe" after that I was like no way are the kids watching this.

I alwso decided to look at some of the feutres and in the deleted scences they had a part where the cat and the children are on blow up rings going down one of those water slides that lay flat on the ground and the cat was holding up a picture of the childrens mother in a bikini and stearing at it like he was getting tunred on.

I was totally outraged that they would say it was a childs movie and child friendly and I do not plan on letting my child or my cousin watch it anytime soon.

maybe the writers didnt think children would understand the jokes. but it should have been given a higher rating, then people would have been like "but it was a children's book" but i loooove the movie!

reply

well hun, i dont think little kids understand that or even notice it

this is why i'm h ot this is why this is why i'm hot! u ain't cause u not!

Just because children do not understand something they see/hear in movie does not mean they won't repeat it or try to recreate it. I pity any poor parent who's children quote and imitate this film.

reply

i agree...it kinda made me mad, i think if Dr.Seuss saw this he would go mad i dont think he would have been to happy about it......

Consequences, schmonsequences as long as im rich

reply

like chi-lady said, they probably think that little kids wouldnt understand the jokes, like "dirty hoe", im fifteen and i didnt really know what a hoe (both) was until i was like 10 or 11. some kids dont understand jokes so i dont see the big deal

reply

if it was a another movie i wouldn't care, but its is base on a childrens book .I dont think Dr.Suess would've put that in his book! Consequences, schmonsequences as long as im rich

reply

dude it was funny come on and who cares that movie is NOTHING compared to what they see on tv hell even pbs quit your complaining and a child isnt going to understand 9/10 of those jokes till theyre about 10 and up, and none of you can say your child (4 or up) hasnt seen atleast a pg-13 movie where they cuss and it isnt sensored and theres violence and i personally thought those books were lame but the movie was great

reply

But what's your reasoning/justification for adding adult humour to a kids' film? I mean, come on. We all know Dr. Seuss is for kids and, personally, I can enjoy a bit of Dr. Seuss in its innocent form without incessant toilet humour...

The question is: Why add it? It's not like it was filling a need.

reply

exactly degrassifreak, i didnt know what hoe was until 7th grade!

this is why i'm h ot this is why this is why i'm hot! u ain't cause u not!

yea, cuz if some kid says, mommy, whats a hoe? they would say its a gardening tool.

reply

plus, did you see madagascar? what movie was hilarious and they're saying "hoover dam" and "sugar honey iced tea"

reply

Actually Dr. Suess was a bit of a bad boy. His original X for his alphabet book was going to be X for seX. How wrong is that?

Anyway i took some kids I was baby-siting to see it and their mom was not happy. Said I was poisining their minds with hollywood crap. I thought it could have been a little cleaner though.

It was a little rude. The sunova.... phrase was used twice, cat said bloody once, and looked at a centrefold of mum twice if you count deleted scene. Also he was hit in balls with baseball bat when he was pinata. Its not necesary to make kids films rude - we saw the cats bum crack when he was fixing the couch. Sexual inuendos at times when he is on his rampage in the house.

Btw, the outtakes on the DVD bleeps out 'F' and 'S' words but you know what they are saying.

Let's stay on topic people. This is a Star Wars board.

this movie is not dirty at all, what's wrong with dirty hoe slipping in there eh? it's not like it's going *beep* corrupt them. if i had kids i'd let them watch this. my parents were very leniant with me, they let me watch friday the 13th,nightmare on elm street, halloween, hellraiser and childs play on tv and let me rent them, and i turned out ok. the only movie that they'd never let me see was texas chainsaw massacre and i was glad that they did because when i saw it, the movie was boring and just so damn funny. so were the sequels too.

Harvester_of_souls2003, I am ashamed of your parents! How dare they let you watch something like that!!!

JOKES!

I am in complete agreement with you. I loved the cat in the hat, and so did my three little cousins (2, 4, and 5 years old). My parents also enjoyed the film. So I am actually a little surprised at those who said they hated it for a couple 6 second strips of "dirty" footage, and one or two sexual inuendos(?). I actually grew up watching the same movies, and I still love them (and for the record, I agree with the "Texas...sucks..." statement).

Crawl up a chicken's ass and wait.

Good God, lighten up! The kids won't understand those parts! To them, a Hoe is a Hoe, not a Ho! Kids don't need to be protected to that extent! Hell, on Japanese shows, there are references to upskirts on shows that play at 7:30 in the morning!

reply

Really, if you think about it, nothing is worse than a Disney film. Walt Disney did a lot of racist things in his time. I think that nothing has really changed, it's only the public awareness of a problem that has...

reply

And of course Mike Eisner at Disney used sexual imagery in the 1990s Blockbuster (The Hunchback being one.). Ta Ta.

You thought that 'sunava' would register with a 14 month old?

What are you going to do next? Try and get the Harry Potter books banned?

reply

the OP is very stupid! she thinks a 14 month old could process and understand the jokes. honey, i dont even remember what i heard, seen, or watched when i was 14 months old!

this is why i'm h ot this is why this is why i'm hot! u ain't cause u not!
