Sam's 1/2 an onion

In the episode, The French Drop" Sam won half an enormous onion. Hard to believe that onions were scarce, however, as it would be something to savour I wonder what she would do with it. Every bit would be used up including the skin, any ideas?

Onions were scarce. In the episode "Plan of Attack". The turkey held in evidence was finally allowed to be cooked for the evacuee children. The Sargent produced it cooked to his mother's recipe sadly without the onion stuffing. Perhaps Sam's half an onion couldn't last until Christmas and made tripe and onions with it.

When watching this episode for the first time I couldn't help but wonder how long that turkey would last just sitting in the evidence room. I mean, really? Wouldn't it go bad by the end of day one? Or do fresh turkeys last longer than thawed-frozen ones?

The onion story is quite accurate. Most of Britain's onions were grown in the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey, Aldernay and the like), so the supply was abruptly cut off after the Nazis took over the islands in 1940.

In the years ahead they started growing them in Britain, but even so the supply remained unequal to the demand.
