What do you mean by "better?" The show is the same liberal propaganda from start to finish. So if that is "good" to you, then the show will be "good" in episode one and will never stop being "good."

I forced myself to watch 3 full seasons because of all the stoned people telling me how it was as good or better than The Sopranos. I even tried watching it high, but I guess I needed something stronger than Marijuana because it still sucked.
I made it through almost two seasons. Can't think of one memorable scene or compelling moment in what I watched. Heck, many sitcoms have more variety. If you like the lead actor, check out "The Affair" instead.
Starting to wonder if all these "The Wire is the best show ever!!!" people are just trolling everybody...
Find a better show. There are PLENTY to choose from.

David Simon doesn't give a damn about a "typical audience". Anyone needs spoon fed? He ain't writin' for you. It's actually one of my favorite things about the show. The fact that he makes you keep following without knowing exactly what's going on, forcing you to trust that eventually the pieces will come together...and there will be some things that you might never understand (specifics) that aren't important.
