a central character is a loner/misfit desperately searching for love/companionship but ends up losing it when rejected. The ending should be bleak and depressing.

"Love Object" which is pretty similar and really really good from what I remember.
"Bad Boy Bubby" or Rubby..dont remember well. Its also kind of similar as it is kind of sick, you kind of root for Bubby who is mentally handicapped and you constantly think to yourself "Please dont *beep* up...please dont *beep* up...". Not really a horror movie but watch it.

I liked the concept of Love Object, but it just didn't do it for me because they should have cast a more unattractive actor to play the role of Kenneth (Desmond Harrington is too good looking, its doubtful such a handsome guy wouldn't be able to pull chicks regardless of his weirdo behavior).
